Our Old Monkeyshine Ale is an exceptional example of a true, traditional-style English Pub beer. Nimbus Old Monkeyshine Ale is medium bodied and possesses a distinct, dark roasted flavor. Its sweet malty taste is derived from liberal use of seven varieties of specialty malts and a touch of brown sugar. Our Old Monkeyshine Ale is dark in color, beginning with a slight caramel malt overtone and rounded with a relatively dry finish from its English Kent Goldings hops. The hops aroma is mildly subdued and the bitterness is just enough to balance the profile of this beer. Nimbus Old Monkeyshine Ale is a true premium ale and is priced accordingly. Weíre so proud of this beer for its body, taste, alcohol content and drinking enjoyment, it may just become our signature beer. Be warned: its wonderful malty sweetness camouflages the 8.0% alcohol by volume content. Itís a winner!

Tap. Pours dark brown, almost looks like a porter. Aroma of toffee and caramel, with some dried fruits. Taste is dominated by alcohol, then the sweet malt and caramel flavors come through. Earthy finish. Decent beer, donít think I could have more than 2 at one time.

Hazy red-orange body, medium creamy light tan head. Funky aroma, quite yeasty, with the qualities of a dusty wood-planked cellar, some sourness, and fermenting dark fruits and sugars. Red wine and wood. Flavor of sweet breads and pastries, toast, and bark. Sort of a "candleshop" medley of antiquity. Sweet finish; the brown sugar is definitely notable. A somewhat metallic aftertaste detracts a bit from the palate. Would go well with a fine cigar and darts. Iím not sure why more breweries donít craft this style, as itís a refreshing alternative from typical winter offerings. Many thanks to Dan (jah noth) for another great beer!

Bottle... Dark, cloudy, burnt orange ale with a small, creamy, beige head. Terrific retention. The malty, caramel aroma also offers vinous notes and a hint of molasses. Bold, beefy flavor with chewy malts and restrained alcohol. Good balance; moderately sweet and just bitter enough. Full-bodied with medium carbonation. Finishes mildly bitter and warming. Kudos to FlacoAlto for supplying the bottle!

Sampled a nice 6 pack a few months ago. Pours dark brown with a thin head. Drinks really smooth. Alcohol is high but good. Very malty. A well crafted strong ale.

Bottled. Darkish brown, murky pour, with a touch of head. Full, nutty, grainy aroma, with a an earthy flavor finishing in a touch of tart and brown sugar. Very clean and true to style. Easily quaffable, despite its high alcohol content.

A gift from a friend in AZ. Poured into a pint glass being dark amber brown with a one inch tan head that laced nicely down the glass during consumption. Strong malty sweetness of caramel & very light booze. Definite dark fruity roasted toffee yet a dry finish of hops. Like the bitter end of this beverage. Balanced very well. Overall this is a better than average English style pub beer. Would easily consume again.

Bottle from BevMo, Phoenix. Rich caramel malt aroma with some roasted toffee. Pours brownish amber with a light brown head and decent lacing. Sweet caramel with some brown sugary notes. Finishes with the roasted toffee and just a bit of hops at the very end. I like it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Full bodied, malt-driven, plum, tobacco, caramel, toffee, moderately bitter, appropriately full, hefty, chewy and resinous. I like.
