COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Old Monkeyshine Ale is an exceptional example of a true, traditional-style English Pub beer. Nimbus Old Monkeyshine Ale is medium bodied and possesses a distinct, dark roasted flavor. Its sweet malty taste is derived from liberal use of seven varieties of specialty malts and a touch of brown sugar. Our Old Monkeyshine Ale is dark in color, beginning with a slight caramel malt overtone and rounded with a relatively dry finish from its English Kent Goldings hops. The hops aroma is mildly subdued and the bitterness is just enough to balance the profile of this beer. Nimbus Old Monkeyshine Ale is a true premium ale and is priced accordingly. We’re so proud of this beer for its body, taste, alcohol content and drinking enjoyment, it may just become our signature beer. Be warned: its wonderful malty sweetness camouflages the 8.0% alcohol by volume content. It’s a winner!

Pours a hazy brown from the bottle with fluffy tan head that leaves moderate lacing. Aroma of sweet biscuit and caramel, hint of fruit and grass. Taste follows, almost like a scotch ale sweetness with a bit of boozy burn and hints of grass. Decent, dry finish.

Draught. Dark golden color, slightly hazy. Bubbly white head that laced the glass. Estery banana nose with some cloves. These characteristics come out again in the flavor and mix well with a cream and spice undertones. Reminded me more of a Belgian abbey ale than an English strong ale.

Pours a murky amber red color, with a small off white head, decent lacing. The heads leaving! Aroma is salt water taffe(Sp?) fresh hops, tinging on the nose. Flavor is sweet smooth, with a nice hop bite, lots of booze bitterness with apple in the finish.

UPDATED: JUL 5, 2006 Bottle (12oz). Shared with jerc, mds and tupalev - mds’ bottle. Poured clear deep ruby-amber with a small beige head. Aroma of caramel malt, wood, sweet, dry, dusty, yeasty. Dry, roasty, bitter aroma - nutty, some bitter chocolate and coffee grounds, long bitter finish. Average body, a little astringent, fairly flat - very nice beer, not sure about the style.

Bottle from trade with cbkschubert! Poured a reddish brown with a thin tan head that left light lacing. Sweet aromas of milk chocolate, maple syrup, and cinnamon. The flavor found coffee and milk chocolate. Medium body. Very enjoyable!

Clear brown pour, medium almond head that stays. Aroma is toffee. Flavor is toffee, chocolate, with the roasted malts and coffee coming through later. Nutty, caramel sweetness with roastiness and smoke in the background and aftertaste. This taste damn good.

Thanks Tonka! Pours a very dark reddish brown with a small creamy tan head. Sweet slightly burnt malt aroma with a decent amount of citrus hops, a bit fridgy. Darker flavor, burnt brown sugar with generous hopping, earthy. The 8% is pretty well hidden. Strong flavors that aren’t overpowering, a bit plasticy. Medium body that isn’t too full with fine sizzling carbonation. Pretty easy drinking for a beer with that burnt flavor.

Nose of raisins and heavy malts. Well-carbonated. Roasted caramel and toffee flavors dominate, with some raisins in the background. Pretty good, one of my all time Tucson favorites.
