Our Old Monkeyshine Ale is an exceptional example of a true, traditional-style English Pub beer. Nimbus Old Monkeyshine Ale is medium bodied and possesses a distinct, dark roasted flavor. Its sweet malty taste is derived from liberal use of seven varieties of specialty malts and a touch of brown sugar. Our Old Monkeyshine Ale is dark in color, beginning with a slight caramel malt overtone and rounded with a relatively dry finish from its English Kent Goldings hops. The hops aroma is mildly subdued and the bitterness is just enough to balance the profile of this beer. Nimbus Old Monkeyshine Ale is a true premium ale and is priced accordingly. Weíre so proud of this beer for its body, taste, alcohol content and drinking enjoyment, it may just become our signature beer. Be warned: its wonderful malty sweetness camouflages the 8.0% alcohol by volume content. Itís a winner!

Clear brown pour, medium almond head that stays. Aroma is toffee. Flavor is toffee, chocolate, with the roasted malts and coffee coming through later. Nutty, caramel sweetness with roastiness and smoke in the background and aftertaste. This taste damn good.

Thanks Tonka! Pours a very dark reddish brown with a small creamy tan head. Sweet slightly burnt malt aroma with a decent amount of citrus hops, a bit fridgy. Darker flavor, burnt brown sugar with generous hopping, earthy. The 8% is pretty well hidden. Strong flavors that arenít overpowering, a bit plasticy. Medium body that isnít too full with fine sizzling carbonation. Pretty easy drinking for a beer with that burnt flavor.

Nose of raisins and heavy malts. Well-carbonated. Roasted caramel and toffee flavors dominate, with some raisins in the background. Pretty good, one of my all time Tucson favorites.

(bottle from Sparky27, thanks Eric!) Pours dark brown with an off-white head that settles to a thin film with adequate lacing. The aroma is very unique and quite sweet, with some fresh doughnuts, chocolate covered raisins, prune, and a subtle toasted malt lurking underneath. A little bit of black tea is detected as well. The flavor is mainly sweet, light notes of chocolate, slight raisin, and roasted malt as well. With the aroma being as strong as it was, Iíd thought there would be more flavor, but everything is rather restrained. Finishes out lightly bitter and roasted. Mouthfeel is medium, the carbonation is very smooth, and the 8% never shows up. This is a really solid beer. Thanks again Eric!

Deep amber out of the bottle with a thin off white head. Toffee sweet nose with some butter. This is a subtle barley wine with some burnt toffee sweetness, dark bread and dark malts. The bitterness in the finish is almost hot. This seems small for a barley wine and is almost quaffable, but still an enjoyable beer.
