kenb (1100), Oregon, USA Nov 25, 2006 12 oz bottle via FlacoAlto (thanks!). Pours an almost clear amber with a large but quickly dissipating head. Nose is very nice with some floral hops, strong lemon and some orange. Taste is sweet and sour with the sour lemon taking the edge. Also some toasty grains are present in the aftertaste. The sourness really makes it hard to detect any flavors. Medium body. heavy carbonation. I think this would be good if it was not so sour..i think we have an infection in this one as nobody else has mentioned sourness in this one.... kepano (239), Meudon, France Oct 15, 2006 Second stop at Nimbus, unfortunately Rillito did not perform much better than the Brown Ale. The recherché poppy red color, hid beneath a contrastingly drab soapy top suggesting candidly the deceptive nature of this brew. Strawberry jelly appears prominently on the nose, accompanied by equally fruity sensations of orange, mango and rose petal. Clover honey and caramel form a light malty base highlighted by pepper and cinnamon. Excellent qualities stand out from the aroma but they fail to interact and form a pleasant, balanced unity. The flavor suffers of the same symptoms bursting initially of juicy citrus hops only to reveal a bland and grainy mid-palate further impaired by vigorous carbonation. Dry bitterness in the finish leads to an aftertaste recovered by touches of strawberry and coffee. Lacking a true core but a beer with definite qualities; I found Nimbus’ palate a bit light once again, evoking a series of ‘in progress’ beers. aracauna (2357), Georgia, USA Sep 20, 2006 Pours a clear amber with a large white head. The aroma is a bit of a surprise with it’s fairly hop forward nature, the piney hops float over a rich caramel maltiness that carried over into the flavor. This was really better than I expected. irishsnake (353), Oakland, California, USA Sep 5, 2006 beer decants a slightly hazy amber/red, with a well-retained, slightly off-white head that laces well. decent enough nose, but kind of weird - sort of a lack of harmony between the hop pungency and the caramel-y nose. nice flavor starts with a slightly thick maltiness, but dries out nicely as the bitterness kicks. all-in-all a fairly solid beer that is well balanced - the hop and malt blend a bit better as you drink. IrishBoy (2685), Bakersfield, California, USA Aug 21, 2006 12 oz bottle via trade with cbkschubert; Nose of spice, a little dark fruit, and a lot of caramel; Amber color with a large, long-lasting yellow-tinged head; Flavor is spicy, hoppy, caramelly with a nice bitter hop finish. BückDich (4785), McCall, Idaho, USA Aug 15, 2006 Caramel color, nice white head, light lacing. Nose of pine, spice, wood, and vegetal hops, light rye and caramel malt. The flavor is herbal with a strong rye presence, very spicy and nice balance. Finishes vegetal, a bit different, after a few, I’m sure the good spicy character would blend into just the vegetal notes. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Jul 7, 2006 12 oz bottle via trade with cbkschubert. Coppery pour with a big, creamy beige head. Hoppy pine and grapefruit nose, with a substatial caramel influence. Toffee and breadlike flavors under a thick citrus. Sweet, but biting finish. Pretty good! BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA Jul 3, 2006 Bottle from trade with cbkschubert. Poured a copper color with an off-white head. The aroma was hoppy, floral, and honey that got sweeter as it warmed. The flavor seemed a little more subdued with citrus hops upfront and a hint of malts in the ending. Light body and dry. Little to no aftertaste. Enjoyable on a hot summer day. Thanks Craig!!
