Cask; Special. Also available bottle conditioned.
Introduced to coincide with the Queen’s Jubilee, the Royal Standard is a quintessentially British brew. Coronet gold in colour, it is crafted from a blend of five of the finest English hops, giving it magnificent depth and complexity of flavour. It is a summery ale, bursting with zesty fruitfulness and a tantalising hint of cooling mint, evocative of those classic British ‘summer’ days...

Bottle from Rheged. Bright amber coloured with a sweet malty and burnt toffee flavour, peppery hops and sweet caramel on the finish.

Cask conditioned at Far From the Madding Crowd, Oxford. Amber with slight head. Where to begin? There was a big dose of caramel, fudge, pretty sweet along with a heavy perfumey flavour, some earthiness, leaf mould. I didn’t really get on with this one.

Pigs Ear. Hazy amber beer, tidy cream coloured head. Weird nose of something lambic like, plus citrus and mild smoke. Palate is light and crisp. Weird sour cherry flavour. smoke and then sweet orange fruits. Dry finish. An all over the place mess.

Cask at Pigs Ear BF 2012, London. Pours clear gold with a white cream head - it looks good. Smokey nose, some pale malts. Lightly smokey flavor, tobacco, ash, light fruits. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Smokey finish, more tobacco. It’s oddly smokey, one of those light-colored beers with some unintentional smoke character. Not altogether bad, but...
