COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In a surprising turn of events, rival superpowers have joined forces to bring a beer of might to the world. According to top-secret documents, recently unclassified, brewmasters for 21st Amendment in California and Ninkasi in Oregon began their brewing careers together many years ago. Leaders from the two breweries reunited recently at a secret camp in the Sierras to devise their master plan. “We are more alike than we are different,” said 21st Amendment’s Shaun O’Sullivan. “We must unite in our common cause,” added Ninkasi’s Jamie Floyd. The resulting collaboration, an ale brewed with California dates, an aggressive arsenal of all-Northwest hops and an unmistakable aroma of victory, deals a unified blow to unoriginal beers around the world. Tasting Notes: This Strong Ale has caramel, toffee, plum, fig and date in a wallop rich malt flavor with a robust hop flavor and balancing this full flavored treat. Citrus, pine, and earthy describe the hop nose that comes from a huge dry hop of the Falconer’s Flight Hop Blend. The beer is also aged on Real California Dates imparting even more natural fruit flavor and deepening the Mahogany hue of this delicious collaboration.

UPDATED: APR 24, 2013 On tap, pours a clear brownish red color with a light off white head with hardly any lacing. Smells of dates, pine, caramel and citrus and resin. Tastes of all the same things. Mouthfeel is slightly chewy and creamy with decent carbonation and a semi dry finish. Overall this is pretty different. Dates in beer actually taste pretty good. Not something I?d want all the time but good to try.

22 oz pours nice dark burnt caramel red little lacing and a finger of head. Smells bomby with floral cascade like hop smell and sweet toffee. Tastes sweet and sight red malty and yet balanced floral bitterness. No booziness. Highly drinkable. Would recommend to try. Its like what dogfish head tries to do in a complex process but simple and much cheaper.

Out of a 22 oz bottle. Pours a dark red with a thin white head. It smells malty and a little sweet. The taste is initially malt with a slightly fruity aftertaste. Very little bite considering the 8.5% ABV. A very good collaboration with 21st Amendment, whos beers I have been trying and liking. I wouldn’t expect anything different from two great breweries.

Bomber. Well, I’ve tried the 21st Amendment version of this and liked it (or so says my rating from a little over a year ago--I don’t really remember it). Let’s see how this one matches up. Pours hazy amber with a medium beige head with good retention; leaves a little lace. Aroma is pretty hoppy--grapefruit and pine are strong; also some caramel and fruit (esters or dates, not sure). Taste is a little sweet and bitter in a very Ninkasi way; it’s savory and earthy with fruit dancing all around everything. See them dance. Body is medium, mouthfeel a little foamy, carbonation average. Tastes good to me.

Ahh shoot! You know there are some brewers who brew beer for the love of beer and those that do it for money or some other reason. Ninkasi seems like their in it for the money. This beer is thin and tastes phony. For as cheap as their beers are they are decent. The thing is that their beers are good CHEAP beer as opposed bad cheap beer. This beer is made with dates? You wouldn’t know it if you didn’t read it. Not suprisingly I was dissapointed with this beer and will probably not buy another Ninkasi beer again.

Seems one of the words I use for an aroma or flavor when I can’t describe it exactly is ‘fruity,’ implying a sweetness but also that I can’t pin it down to a specific fruit. also raw sugar, lumber first flavor hit is brown sugar, a mix of lemony & resin hops, alcohol, when you lick a dry rock. tongue feels tingly then goes dry. clear amber with modest off white head
