Special Release Series. Babylon is an English take on an American style of the traditionally English India Pale Ale. Originated for the long voyage from England to India, and adopted as the quintessential Northwest beer style, IPA’s have a strong presence in the modern craft beer scene. This big Double IPA is influenced by its English roots, but firmly planted in the modern stylings of Northwest brewing, and enjoyable to hop enthusiasts everywhere!

Marris Otter malt from the UK was used along with Biscuit malt to create a rich, nutty backbone to this super hoppy beer. The hop aroma begins with intense earthiness from the prolific use of English- Style Fuggle hops. There is a depth that includes apricots, peaches, a hint of mango, and a fruity hop character to balance the copious malts. This is carried on to the palate with a smooth, creamy mouthfeel from the flaked barley, making for a very flavorful and very enjoyable beer.

On tap at Oyster Bar in Portland while waiting for the Dandy Warhols 13 13 shoe. A pretty ordinary double IPA.

a very bright, clear yellow amber with modest off white head. aromas lof lemon, lumber. alcohol & yeast. a little flat & oily in the mouth. a hint of bubblegum under all the sharp hops, grapefruit & resin, malt syrup—a bit unsettled of a mix. bitter lemony finish.

pours a semi-clear amber with a small off-white head, and good lacing. smell is of citrus, floral, some malt, and some hops. taste is creamy, bitter, dry hops, malt, some dandelion, and a little caramel. ends bitter and creamy.

England and the PNW combined.. Continental malts/hops with a big NW hop hand. I like it a lot. Poured into my HotD goblet... long lasting light khaki head.. the brew is clear orange. Hops on the nose show as earthy and grassy.. some sorta peachy fruitiness... pale malts are heavier than a standard PNW DIPA. Malts on the palate have a definite English influence.. hops are more fruity, but there is still an earthy/grassy element... bitterness balances the malts nearly perfectly.. Very rich across the board. Body is bigger than the standard drier PNW DIPA.. sorta creamy yet has a good carbonation. This is a very interesting brew.. Unique in the DIPA land for sure (English malts and hops with a heavy PNW hand.... I like :-) I wish Ninkasi would make this at least a seasonal or take it out of the 4-packs.... I would buy it often.

Nice amber appearance, little to no head retention, decent lacing. I get nearly nothing on the nose though, some caramel but that’s about it. Taste is huge though, nice sweet malt up front, more caramel with a nice citrusy hop finish. Palate is heavy, thick a little creamy. Overall a good beer from Ninkasi.

Out of the bottle. The smell is rubbery and harsh. The taste is as well. Not much hop flavor and a weird aftertaste.

On tap at Bier One. Hoppy citrus up front with sticky malt sweetness in the background. Bitterness is harsh. Finish is a bit off balance with a strong alcohol burn. A different tasting brew but still tasty.
