On tap at silver dollar II. Pours dark brown with a thin skiff of head. Solid lacing. Aroma of lacto, chocolate, weak coffee, nuts. Taste is bitter with a bit of sweetness. Medium carbonation, dry finish.

This is a really great oatmeal stout. Great burnt notes, nice bitterness, and very smooth in the mouth. I could drink this all day long.

Black, opaque, tan head. Aroma of biscuity malt, cocoa, roast, earthy oats. Flavor is similar, with biscuit, baker’s chocolate, oats, moderate roast, nutty notes. Nice.

Pours an opaque black from the bottle with dissipating tan brown head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma is nice roast and dark chocolate, a nice earthy oat and soy back end. Taste is more coffee than earth, but still nice rounded balance. Solid, mild carbonation, nothing crazy but decent.

On tap @ Chuck’s 85th. Pours inky black with thin mocha head. Aroma is dry dark chocolate malt and soy sauce. Taste is dark roasty malt, thicky earthy oaky flavor, umami, with light barrel-aged notes throughout. Very smooth mouthfeel. I think this was the barrel-aged version, which cuts the sweetness of this beer considerably and adds some rich balance to this. And is overall much better than the standard version. Vanilla, which jumps out of the regular Oatis, is muted here. Nice beer, still Ninkasi’s forte seems to be the lighter bodied varieties.

Creamy velvet stout. Oatmeal vanilla and chocolate notes. Black pour with white foamy head. Delicious. Poured from draft at union ale in Santa Barbara.

Bottle at the hotel room in San Diego. Very dark brown beer with a nice lasting beige/brownish head. Roasted cocoa and coffee aroma, vanilla, caramel, chocolate, some figs. Malty caramel flavor, chocolate, cocoa, roasted, some coffee. Drinkable but a bit too sweet.

Bottle. Mild aroma of vanilla, cocoa, and dark roasted malts. Meduim body, a little bitter up front. This beer is a session ale for when you need to walk straight after leaving the bar.

A nice rich oatmeal stout. Lots of chocolate in this one. Dark and rich with a thick tan head. Tried in a little restaurant north of the redwoods in 2014.

Poured from bottle to glass. Oily black hue with brown tan head that lingers. Aroma is vanilla, coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, toasted oats. Mouthfeel us nice with a medium light body and good carbonation. Taste is dry initially with a nice bitter following and CO2 bite in the finish. Overall this is a nice soft velvety stout with a sweet essence but smooth and balanced. Very nice.
