3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 stantheman (362) - British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 8, 2013
On tap at St. Augustine’s on The Drive in Vancouver. It’s black with a bit of tan head. Maxi-sleeve so not much nose yet. Not as sweet as I’d have thought, but heavy roasting is evident. Tastes of coffee and chocolate, but lacks much bitter or fruity dimension. 3.6.

I wish they had this beer on tap and available in CA. One of my favorite beers done by Ninkasi. Full of flavor, great oatmeal stout.

Bottle from the folks after their US trip. Pours jet black with a small firm tan head. Nose is quite sweet. Lots of vanilla and stewed dark fruits. Nice balance. Taste shows vanilla and plummy/raisin notes at the start which meld into oats towards the end with a hoppy bitterness on the finish. Full creamy mouth feel with light lingering bitterness. Really good stuff

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 KajII (705) - Macon, North Carolina, USA - DEC 11, 2012
22oz Bottle. The pour was a thick muddy dark black with a large (2-3 finger) tan creamy head that had great retention, receding slowly down to a medium cap with excellent thick sheets of spotty lacing.
The aroma was sweet and roasty up front with some burnt cereal malts, mild resin hops and a doughy leathery yeasty and had notes of molasses, dark chocolate, roasted coffee and a nice smooth oat presence.
The taste was extremely malty and a tad roasty sweet with hints of molasses and chocolate early on, becoming bitter sweet with a mild creamy oat presence and a nice dose off coffee towards the finish. The flavor stuck around for a good long while following the swallow, with a bold bitter roastiness left lying on the taste buds.
Mouthfeel was full in body with a smooth, dry texture and a very soft carbonation.
Overall this brew was tremendously tasty and possessed an awesome body along with a fantastic drinkability, which all together did a great job of concealing the somewhat high ABV...

Bottle pours a dark brown color with a thick tan top. Roasted malt scent. Taste is bitter chocolate and roasty.

Thanks thanks to gregwilsonstl for sharing. Pours dark brown with a mohagany hue and a small tan head. The aroma has roasty malt, some bitterness to it, coffee, molasses and a smooth oat quality. It has a medium body with a minor amount of semi-sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with roasty malt, abrasive roast bitterness and a big dryness. The finish has lots of coffee, earthiness and woodiness. Decent oatmeal stout.

Shared from a 12oz brown bottle into a mini schooner glass, thanks Greg and Joe. It poured an opaque brown color with persistent beige head and some nice lace. 100% true-to-style Oatmeal Stout aromas and flavors: grainy, toasty, hints of coffee and even fainter chocolate, some roasted barley bitterness blended-in with the hops balance. Higher alcohol in the Foreign Stout range. It was a little drier, tarter, less bready, and less silky smooth compared to my favorite examples. Good not great.
