4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured out of a bomber into a tulip glass. Black as night with a nice inch and a half of tan, big bubbled head.
Smells of roasted malt and dark chocolate.
Burnt malt dominates the flavor. The hops grab the tongue with just enough bitterness at the end.
Light to medium body, light carbonation.
Very drinkable. This is a good stout, solid taste and easy drinking. The only (slight) letdown is the body. A little creaminess or softness is what I expect in an oatmeal stout and it was not there.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Almost black with ruby highlights and a huge dark mocha head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, dark carmel, and roast. Taste very roasty, with lots of bitter chocolate and espresso. Not as sweet as aroma would suggest, but very full. If the aroma promised cappuccino, the flavor delivered really good Italian espresso. Great beer.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Great coffee like aroma with some oatmeal sweetness. The roast in this stout is cut significantly by the oatmeal but does not cause it to be too sweet. I'm biased against this category because I like my stouts bigger and heavier but this is good for the style.

I have no idea how to describe brews like most of you folks. I have been drinking craft beers since the Reagan administration. I know what I like and this is good stuff.

7.2%ABV. Oatmeal stout
Nice creamy brown head. Held for a good long time. Invitingly so. Iím not usually moved by whether an ale holds itís head or not, but in this case, the head looked so inviting, I ended up gulping the whole bottle and only got a chance to get a feel for the aroma and the taste on the 2nd go around.
Nose is typical stout with understated flavor notes of toast. The aroma fills the palate quite aggressively with a clean roasted barley body fleshed out by a heart oatmeal heft. The tastebuds ended up processing a lot of the sweet malty flavors which were robust and were not thin and transient as is the case with many plain Irish stouts. The depth of the malty body is explained partly by the addition of oatmeal which extends the starchy reach of the malt. This is where the true genius of Ninkasiís brew starts to reveal itself in the way that hops are use to gently balance and nudge the palate away from being unctuously saturated and towards wanting MORE. I fell like a noob for this and just could not help gulping the first bottle.
Now, Iím still trying to explain the mouthfeel which was substantial without being cloying or syrupy. Just the right amount of gravitas to be an oatmeal stout without being an actual dubbel.
This clearly goes on my favorites list. A very cunningly crafted oatmeal stout. Kudos!
