(Draft) Sampled at the 2011 Great Canadian Beer Festival on September 9, 2011. Some strong Hi-C hops in the front. Lots of malt running an under-current. A solid body with lots of citrus. I very much like!

bottle. aroma of dank weed. probably the best smelling beer i’ve had. flavor is near perfect balance of citrus and piney hops. nice and bitter. tastes like a dream. only thing better is their double. one of my all time favorite IPA’s.

Freshness unknown. Gotten from Newgeneric from BA. Great golden body and white head. Little.more malty than I would want but still a well balanced beer

One of the best I have tried. I was just up in Oregon and hit up a few breweries. This was the best beer I had tried.

22oz bottle -

I really, really hope that sometime in the future that brewers will be required to put a bottling date on their products. Since they don’t seem to have the motivation of doing it, perhaps there can be a ground roots movement to persuade them and help them see the light. IPA’s should never been in position like the one I had last night, because anyone who’s just now getting into the love of the style would be sorely disappointed. If this isn’t an old beer, then my opinion of Ninkasi has just dropped a notch.

The beer pours out a very nice golden-orange body, mostly clear with an off-white fluffy cap. Aroma was mostly dominated by malts and toasted bread. The hops were just buried under the malts, which is a crying shame. Flavor was just as strong in the malt department, and it seems that this beer is aptly named. The malts had total domination over any inkling of hops that were used in the receipe. Either this was an old bottle and the hops had faded (and if so, shame on them for not dating their bottles) or the hops where never there in the first place, and that should be equally disappointing to them, especially coming from Oregon. I’ve had other Ninkasi products so I know they are quality brewers. This however, was not a quality IPA. At least this bottle wasn’t.

I really love this beer. I didn’t even like IPA’s before having this and now it is one of my favorite styles.
