Roasty light sweet caramel malt backbone with hints of light toffee. Bready and grainy but with a very mild nuttiness as well. Hops are very floral with moderate citrus.and light pine. I would hesitate calling this a Double IPA, more like a 1.5X IPA. Still a fantastic drink buzzoven (333), Japan
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Aug 25, 2008 Had this as a little back-to-back bomber taste test with my brother. while comparing it to Avery’s Maharaja. Ninkasi has a little bit of an advantage in the drinkability department, but overall this was a tad bit weak for a double IPA. The balance was very very nice...showing some complexity and subtle hop exposure, as well as a suitable malty backbone to showcase it all. But the flavour was a few degrees below the "Holy hell that’s good!" level. The finish was the most interesting part of it all; with a strange sort of false start, then waiting a few seconds and suddenly..whooosh--here’s that bitterness you were waiting for. hayduke (1641), Eureka, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 25, 2008 From a 22 oz bottle that I purchased from Market of Choice in Ashland, OR, this poured hazy with a color somewhere between amber and orange with foamy head the color and consistency of egg nog that slid off the glass and left almost no lacing. Nose of floral and citrus hops. Very smooth and slick mouthfeel. Favor is complex with pine, fruit, citrus, and flowers, well balanced well with the malts. Finish is mild and slightly bitter. Very easy to drink this one. Bullit (1346), Glasgow, Scotland
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 24, 2008 Golden colour, white head. Aroma has flowery hops, is sweet and fruity. Flavour has bitter fruits hops. Finishes sweet and flowery, soft and smooth. This double IPA misses this bitter-hopp edge. fuyajo (225), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 23, 2008 Pours to a pale amber color with medium lacing. Malty, hopy aroma. Probably the best balanced double IPA I’ve ever had. Not crazy hoppy on the back end. In fact it’s kind way maltier than I would’ve expected. I was preparing for gobs of hops. They’re there, but not as prevalent as I figured. However, the balance is amazing. Moderate hoppy finish that lingers for a bit. A nice beer, without a doubt. BuckeyeBoy (1654), Boise, Idaho, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 21, 2008 22oz bottle. Pours cloudy orange amber with a thin, white head, specks of lace. Smells semi-sweet, dark citrusy hoppy with malt undertones. Tastes sweet and citrusy hoppy with some sweet malts in the background. Not a hop bomb but still hoppy and good. Full body, ok carbonation. sneagrams3 (1747), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
