3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
8/27/09 On draft at Hopunion Hop School. Aroma is super-citrus grapefruit forward with a caramel background. Appearance is hazy orange-yellow with a moderate maintained white head. Flavor is simpler than aroma, earth-sweet, with high bittering that doesn’t linger. Mouthfeel is medium-high bodied with a medium carb texture and peppery bite. Overall, a big brew that could lose some harshness and easily be one of the best out there.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Amber colour with reasonable head. Big whiff of hops straight away, lovely! Very well balanced this beer, has loads of pungent fresh hop aroma that carries through o the palate but the malt is there all the way to help it along. very nice!

3.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20
On draught at Ninkasi dinner in SF at Monk’s Kettle. Pours a sunset orange with amber. Full white head that lingers. Massive hop aroma of citrus and pine. Beautifully balanced. Surprisingly medium to thin body. Pallate is a well balanced mix of mostly piney hops and some malt backbone make this a very drinkable double.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours an opaque bronze color with a small beige head that leaves some scattered lacing. Aroma is sort of appley, but not in the same way that Fuggles give off. This is more of a bright, sweet apple note rather than the earthy, stewed flavor of Fuggles. Anyway, there’s also some Simcoe-esque mango notes and a fresh bread maltiness. Flavor reiterates the mango and apple and adds piney resin and modest caramel. Not really very bitter. Finishes on the sweet side. Medium body, carbonation a little low. Good, not great.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
This is a fierce and definitely aptly named brew. To say it is "focused" is an understatement. Killer hops and citrus in the nose actually made me reel back a bit, awesome. Pours dark and menacing for an IPA, like it has bad intentions. Tastes like it smells, explosive bitterness without the slightest attempt to temper it. This is a totally unbalanced, grizzled beast that intends to cut me, and I think I will allow it. Ninkasi is a super creative brewery, and my first thought is this brew is very one-dimensional by their standards, but the more I get into it I feel like this is so straightforward that it defies the norms for high-end IIPAs. Bears no resemblance to their regular IPA. In your face.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle, shared by Cole, thanks buddy! Pours medium to dark amber, thin off-white head, poor lacing. Nose is gentle orange, mild pine-hops, caramel malt, candy? popsicles? Odd. Flavor is very well-balanced between sweet and bitter, but the flavors come off confused and muted. A surprise miss, which is a surprise as I normally quite like Ninkasi.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Beer #6 of IPA night in good old Lethbridge AB. This one thanks to Cole. Pours a copper colour with a small white head with some yeast sediment. The aroma is sweet and slightly hoppy. Sweet fruit candy (like red jube-jubes), spice and apples on the noes. The flavor is sweet like the nose lets on, like a candy beer. Very fruity and a piney bitter finish. Meh

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
like nice redish colour suspended sediment. Nice hop aroma but a bit dull . Flavour is not nice very thick and yeasty tasting it almost tastes like human sweat I like the little snipir about the Sumerians butcall in all it is sweaty and a bit malty. Not a great IPA. It is very hoppy but still
not very impressed.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: AUG 22, 2010 Bomber. Amber, short head, no lace. Malty nose, body and finish; whisky, brandy, dates, strawberry jam; faint hops. Faint licorice aftertaste. Medium to light body, slightly oily, flat, sweet more than bitter - surprising for a Double IPA. A decent beer, but not a DIPA. May have been stored unrefrigerated.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours cloudy, head dissipates quickly. Hoppy, citrus aroma. Taste is very intensely hoppy, citrus notes are very apparent as well. Wonderful double IPA.
