3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle to pint glass
Lots of vanilla, chocolate, oats, lightly roasted malt, and a hint of blackberry. Dark brown/black with a somewhat mottled thin dark tan head with pretty good retention. Taste is chocolate with muted vanilla, given the broad vanilla aroma. There’s oatmeal, perhaps a hint of maple and plenty of toasted malts. Throughout there’s a nice balancing bitterness.
I’m always drawn in to interesting sounding beers like vanilla stouts, but rarely will I be blown away by one. This is a solid beer, but for me, the vanilla is just an accent on what it probably a perfectly good stout.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pour out of 22 oz bottle, dark brownish black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of big cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee into a bit of vanilla, dark fruit in there. Taste is a mix of lactose, oats, nice vanilla into dark coffee, roasted malt into a hint of cocoa, finishing slight bitter, dry. Nice, not overly sweet which works well.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Dark brown. Vanilla, sweet light chocolate. Sweet, thick chocolate, lots of vanilla but that sweetness clashes with the bitterness, of which there also is in the finish.

22oz bottle picked up at the state store
Pours black with a medium sized tan head, lots of lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, roast coffee and mild vanilla. Creamy mouthfeel, roasted malts, ashy, grains, roast coffee, chocolate and some vanilla to mellow out the bitterness in the finish
Nice, easy drinking and well balanced.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (chocolate, roasted grain), with a light note of vanilla. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety/watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic.
A little better than the regular Oatis, but not because of the vanilla...heck, there’s probably even LESS vanilla-like odor here (as wacky as that sounds); it’s very very mild and frankly I wouldn’t even guess it was added. What makes this a teeny bit better is the flavor balance and mouthfeel; it’s not quite as goopy-sweet. It still only rises slightly above average, though.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured from a bomber into a tumbler on 03.05.14.
A: Motor oil. Tan head.
S: Roasty malt. There’s hint of vanilla.
T: Follows the nose.
M: Extremely smooth as an oatmeal stout should be.
O: This has a nice balance so it doesn’t end up being too sweet. The vanilla takes the edge off of the roasty malt. This was a solid oatmeal stout.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours dark with minor lacing with a micro-head to the bottom. The taste is slightly vanilla and dark fruits mixed with the dark chocolate malt. I little thin over all but good.
