COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A delicious Oatmeal Stout with just enough hops to balance the copious quantities of dark roasted malts, oatmeal for a creamy smooth drinkability, and whole vanilla beans for a rich complexity.

Awesome stout. A lighter one with nice roasted malt and chocolate flavours. The oatmeal and vanilla add a really smooth, creamy finish.

22 oz bottle poured into a nonic pint glass. Black with some brown hues around the edges and two fingers of nice frothy tan head. Aromas of vanilla, dark chocolate, caramel, sweet coffee and maybe a hint of dark fruit. Tastes of dark chocolate, vanilla, roasty notes, sweet mocha. Medium-full body with a dry finish. Creamy mouthfeel. Delicious.

22oz bomber, from a 4 bomber 4 pack, pours with a nice deep dark mahogany body that supports a thin mocha head. The aroma offers up malty sweet dark roasted malts and then modest sweet vanilla,  chocolate, brownie, a dash of molasses and booze. The taste is sweet with malts, some molasses, malt sweetened chocolate and then thin ribbons of dark roasted to burnt malts. Behind those notes murmurs a modest degree of smooth sweet vanilla. Solid brew that is a bit on the sweet side.

On tap at MacGregor’s. Roasted malt aroma with chocolate and vanilla notes. Pours black with a good light brown head with good retention and excellent lacing. Nice roasted and chocolate malt flavors that meld well. Finishes very smooth with vanilla notes coming through. Excellent stout.

22oz bottle, deep engine oil black color, with a thick creamy dark tan-colored head, mild soft chocolatey, light vanilla bean, black coffee nose, with some light roasted, black, chocolate, toasted, oat malty, dark burnt fruit, cocoa powder accents, and a faint milk chocolate, subtle sweet lactose sugar, burnt toast, semi-sweet chocolate baking bar, burnt oatmeal chocolate chip cookie note in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate, with a smooth sweet roasted, chocolate, black, oat, toasted malty, good spicy vanilla bean, burnt popcorn, black coffee, burnt toast, burnt chocolate pie crust character, with some light burnt toast, burnt bran muffin, chocolate oatmeal granola bar, mild lactose sugar flavours, leading towards a coffeeish, burnt toast, vanilla bean spiciness, dark bitter chocolate, lingering oat, black, chocolate, roasty bitterness finish. Less powerful, than the Dieu du Ciel, Aphrodisiaque, but nevertheless a good vanilla oatmeal stout!

Nice beer. Pours jet black with nice tan head. Nice vanilla on the nose and some chocolate as well. Silky medium body mouthfeel with a roasted coffee finish that lingers. Taste is roasted malt, chocolate and vanilla. Enjoyable on a cold winters night.

Transfer from BA review on 4-26-14- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a nearly pitch black color with just a hint of light shining through the glass and with a small tan colored head floating atop the surface. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a decent level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is huge of a sweet vanilla smell mixed with some nice big milk chocolate aromas. Along with these are some light caramel smells and some undertones of a roasted malt smell, as well as some more oatmeal like aromas. The slightest hint of a coffee smell is there as well, giving the beer an overall very chocolate vanilla oatmeal cookie like smell. Taste – The vanilla is huge right from the start and is mixed with a nice milk chocolate and a smooth oatmeal flavor. Along with these flavors are a lighter roast taste with the roast flavors getting slightly more potent as the flavor advances forward. Along with the increase in the roast so too comes some lightly bitter coffee flavors as well as some light caramel and dark chocolate tastes. The smooth oat flavor at the start begins to fade some from the taste, with the bitter coffee and some light earthy and herbal hoppy tastes bringing a little bit of “roughness” to the taste. While it brings a roughness, the more bitter flavors balance out some of the massive vanilla that is present in the taste nicely and overall creates a rather nicely roasted and moderately sweet and bitter dark flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is average to a little bit on the thinner side for an oatmeal stout of 7.2 % abv. with a carbonation level that is on the slightly higher side. A bit thicker body and lower carbonation level may have been a nicer for the oat and darker flavors of the brew, accentuating these slightly better, but even so the higher carbonation level was actually nicer for the sweeter flavors of the brew, making for a rather decent feel overall. Overall – A rather tasty brew. If only it had a bit more smooth oatmeal flavor at the end of the taste and a slightly modified body, then it would be one fantastic vanilla oatmeal stout. Even so it, is rather nice and one to try if you get the opportunity.
