A delicious Oatmeal Stout with just enough hops to balance the copious quantities of dark roasted malts, oatmeal for a creamy smooth drinkability, and whole vanilla beans for a rich complexity.

AROMA: Very simple here, vanilla, chocolate, and oats, but it smells really good! APPEARANCE: Pretty typical here for a stout, black, with a nice little mocha colored head that goes quickly TASTE: WOAH! This is excessively hopped with buttering hops! Besides the bitterness, the taste follows the smell exactly. If this beer wasn’t so bitter it would have an immense amount of potential to be very good. PALATE: Very light, leaves your mouth dry, very uncharacteristic like of a stout OVERALL: Needs less buttering hops, just way too much for a stout, stouts are supposed to be on the sweeter side, not the bitter side

Not sure about this one. I feel like the body is too thin to hold such strong flavors. Good complex vanilla, oat, chocolate, stouty flavors but the flat brew doesn’t do them justice like it should.

Deep black pour under a thin sticky light khaki head. Lovely chocolaty nose with some vanilla and earthy caramel and a soft oat tone. Flavor is rich but not too sweet. A little dry and roasty but tones of rich oats and earthy chocolate and a touch of dry earthy vanilla. Pretty tasty nightcap.

This isn’t too sweet but there is definitely a strong amount of vanilla, both in the aroma and the body, almost a bit too much. Still pretty good.

A beginners highish abv beer? Sounds critical to describe this way but i like the uncomplicated sweetness of the vanilla mating very well with chocolate and roast. All flavours carry right through the palate very well. Drinks easier than the abv might suggest.

Poured bottle into Tulip glass Beer pours dark brown almost black, 2 finger camel colored head. Aroma of sweet vanilla and gritty oats, dark roast malt. Tastes like a bitter dark french roast coffee. The vanilla is not what I had hoped for. Very 1 dimensional. This is where the beer falls short. Mouth feel is creamy, can’t narrow down the carbonation too well (not the best judge) but not the best proportion for the brew. Over all with the name of the beer I expected more. This is a beer you buy hoping for something different. Not a bad brew, but not what I expected.

From a 22 oz bottle shared at home. Pours black with a thick tan head. Tobacco nose. Flavors of chocolate and coffee with some smoky notes. Mellow mouthfeel. Slight bitter finish.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Black color with brownish head. Aroma of roasted malt and paper. The mouthfeel is dry but quite smooth, a bit sweeter later when the beer shows some lactose; roasted malt flavor, dark chocolate, dark bread, some rye bread, quite good blend; luckily the vanilla is very subdued. Correct bitterness. The dark malts provide some acidity in the final.
Good beer.
