Flagship Series. A delicious Oatmeal Stout with just enough hops to balance the copious quantities of dark roasted malts, oatmeal for a creamy smooth drinkability, and whole vanilla beans for a rich complexity.

Finally, Ninkasi is beginning to expand their dark beer line. It is a very tasty beer, but the Vanilla is a bit too forced, unnatural tasting. It needed to be less evident. Oh well, maybe the second batch will be better.

A decadent oatmeal stout that pairs really well with cheesecake. Oatis pour a rich mahogany and settles out to be midnight black in the glass with dark brownish ruby at the edges. The head is short-lived creamy light brown. Vanilla and caramel permeate invitingly from the glass. Vanilla, caramel, subtle roast, cocoa and plum dance on the pallette.

Bottle. This is a nice thick and roasty sweet stout with lots of body. I like it a bit better on the colder side to cut down on the cloying tendency of the style.

On tap at St. Augistine’s. Pours a very dark brown with a brown head. Aroma brings out chocolate cake note with vanilla notes. Same character taste and aftertaste with hoppy and burnt malt bitterness. Excellent!

Decent, if maybe a little underwhelming. Pours very dark brown, no real head. The aroma is bitter baker’s chocolate, but it’s very restrained. The flavor is restrained, too. I don’t pick up on the usual rich, cereal malt thing that I enjoy about oatmeal stouts. The front of the tongue is watery, but the finish is a little better. A little bitter, roasted malt, and just the slightest hint of vanilla show up on the back end.

Bomber. Dark oily pour with a tan head. Roasty, vanilla, some cocoa. A bit dry. Quite good.

Visual: Part of a 4-pack, mixed bombers. Pours jet black with a quickly dissipating small head, a thin layer of retention, a few bubbles here and there. Nose: sweet medium roasted caramel barley malt, prominent vanilla (lvl-8)-pungency Attack: slick-oily-thick, crisp bite Mid-palate: thick liquid deep roast barley malt, (lvl-6-sweetness), background dissipating tangy sour, milk sugars Finish: chocolate, vanilla, lingering roasted bitter intermixed with bitter hops Summary: A deliciously decadent mix of dark roasty chocolate vanilla - great balance, drinkability, and complexity. Lots of flavours you can focus individually on.

12oz ppur from chilled bomber into shaker. Dark, opaque, smooth brown head, but a bit thin. Sweet roasty vanilla nose. Creamy smooth body. Taste is awesome. Cake sweet, vanilla, a nice lasting bitterness. Delicious.

Location: 22 oz bottle obtained through Tavour Appearance: Deep brown black. smaller head of tan bubbles. Nose: Sweet. dark chocolate. Malt forward. Obligatory vanilla notes. Taste: toasted oats, roast nut, some coffee. Vanilla and some chocolate bitters Body: medium to full and creamy Parting thoughts: First beer from a highly regarded brewery. Solid above average. Not otherworldly though.
