COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Uniquely different dark wheat ale. This beer is brewed with a touch of star of anise at the end of the boil to give it a nice smooth finish with a slight hint of licorice. Caution, just like a Black Widow, this beer will bite you if you are not careful!

No Label Black Wit-O has a very thin, beige head, a dark, ruby-brown-black appearance, fierce, tiny bubble streams, and almost no lacing. Aroma is of licorice, dark malt, and sweet, brown bread. Taste is more bready than licorice, but that is certainly present. Bitterness is nil. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Black Wit-O finishes semi-dry and a bit bland and dull. RJT

Sample at Mongoose vs Cobra. Brownish-black color with a medium beige head that diminishes steadily. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, yeast and spice. Medium body with flavors of roast malt, herbal yeast and mild coffee. The finish is roasty malt and spices. Decent overall.

Pours clear and very dark. 2 finger head that quickly disperses. No lacing. Love the smell. Lots of licorice with a bit of wheat. Taste is similar to smell. Licorice in the primary flavor. Mouth feel is light and crisp. Surprisingly light for the amount of flavor. I love the licorice taste. This one gets points for having more licorice flavors than any other beer I’ve tried.

Pours a dark brown, almost black with tan colored head. Roasted malt, coffee, and just a hint of anise on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with more roasted malt.

Pours jet black into a goblet. Fast disappearing head with no lacing. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee with a little spice and yeast. Not much visual carbonation with a smooth silky mouthfeel. Clean dry finish. Not bad at all.

Narnad (1471) - Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA - NOV 6, 2013
Pours a very dark black color with a very quick fading, tan colored head. Aroma has a good deal of roasted notes too it, light sweetness at the end of the nose with some light coffee and licorice notes. Flavor has a very washed out roastedness. Light sweet anise notes at the very end but honestly not much there. Body is pretty thin with not fine, semi-sharp carbonation. Overall a meh brew. Not much there to make me want to drink again.

Bottle:   Deep cola, thin sandy head, spotty lacing.   Burnt lactose like nose, a little charcoal, some anise as it warms up.   Charred hay, charcoal, and anise on the tongue.   This is supposed to be a Belgian Ale?   Mentions dark wheat ale, but not sure how much of a wheat ale this is.   Not very traditional at least.   Body and mouthfeel are thin to moderate.   Does seem to pick up some wheatiness on the finish.   This is sorta of an odd duck.   Its like it wants to be Belgian, but its just a little muddled dark wheat ale.   Wished it had a bit more Anise in that case.   Thanks Bill!

Roasted malts, and chocolate comprise the nose. A black pour with an off-white, quickly dissapating, head and minimal lacing. The taste is malt forward. Roasted malts, coffee, suggestions of chocolate, with a bit of wheat present in the finish. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Round, smooth mouthfeel. Overall, I liked this beer! The taste is very roasty/toasty, but not over the top. Will buy more.
