Undeniably Spokane’s most storied ale pays homage to Crystal Laundry that had to be torn down for Expo ’74. This burgundy-colored ale is an intriguing spin cycle of English, German, and American brewing techniques. This ale dispenses a big herbal hop nose, layered malt flavors, and a palette-cleansing bitterness

Bottle @ home, picked up at Wilbur’s Foco. Pours a clear, dark reddish orange appearance with a nice khaki head. Somewhat spicy, grapefruity, a touch resiny hoppy, toasty caramel malty, inviting aroma. A bit sweet, spicy, pretty potent juicy, herbal hoppy, somewhat spicy flavor with a somewhat dry, earthy finish. Pretty easy to drink. Not a bad addition to the Colorado market.

Sampled at Repeal. I wish I would have had this earlier. Amber with copper. This is a nice Americanized version of an ESB. Those west coast hops are a nice addition to the Noble ones. Malts are just right and are pale and crystal. Nothing like caramel. This is what I want in an American ESB. Unfortunately, I had it after a dozen or so other beers which is not the way this beer should be enjoyed.

Great ESB! I can see why it won the Gold at the Great American Beer Festival in that category. Malty sweet characteristics and nose with a great hop finish. Very subtle in the bitterness. Good to see a brewery doing a good ESB!

@ Whole Foods Market / Asheville NC --- Hazy dark ruby amber, long-lasting off-white head, stripes of lace. Taste is malt at the beginning, growing stronger and sweeter through the palate before slowly growing more bitter as it lingers in a very long finish. A satisfying, easy drinking brew. No-Li is doing a lot of things very well. Recommended.

Slightly cloudy very dark orange, near brown, slight creamy head. Aroma sweet bread malt, earth, woody hops, fruity esters. Taste sweet bready malt, slight bitter earthy, floral hops, fruity esters mid mouth and throughout finish. Mouthfeel medium-light body, low carbonation, nice hop bite, no astingency. Overall, very tasty and drinkable, excellent American interpretation of an ESB.

22-oz. bottle - Crystal Bitter branding. Not a bad beer, I like bitters, and this one didn’t disappoint.

22oz bottle. Deep copper color, hazy. Rocky foam. Aroma of crystal malts. Huge malts nose. Loads of caramels, toasted malt sugars, herbal hops. Palate cleansing hops for sure! Full bodied, delicious. Well deserved GABF Gold Medal! (3978)

Thanks to buffalohead for sharing this pretty run of the mill ESB. Depending on the cost and freshness I would probably give NoLi Brewhouse another shot. Hopefully they will continue to do well although around here I am not sure people would notice too much if it were replaced with a different brand. It is one of those interchangeable out of state breweries.

Flavor / Palate - A caramel brown base is the color of melted pennies polished to a shine. Ivory white head and carbonation give it good company. Light crystal sugars and Lipton iced tea make this a blend of dry and sweet. It is pleasant although forgettable after a while.

Flavor / Palate - Light crystal sugar, like the kind you get on rock candy, tease the palate. Malts sweep into a bitter finish. A decent release is a nice ESB although nothing overly special. I give it somewhat high marks for being an unexpected find but overall this is a dime a dozen example.

On tap at bier thirty. Pours out a dark amber topped with a sand head. Nose is malts hop bite wood and some caramel notes. Taste is as the nose with a bitter bite and a nice malt finish.
