Dense black with a tan head, wrecking ball looks great in the glass. Aroma is spectacular, bringing smokey roasted coffee with deep malts and burnt toast. The flavor is what throws this stout off for me being its way too hoppy and lacking in balance. The palate / finish are near perfect, its too bad it was over hopped.

Smells nice with a nice start. Hoppy with some poignant espresso. Some sweetness. Some licorice here with herby anise flavour. Lots of roast, light bitter finish. Tap at DC Beer festival.

Sampled at Repeal. Almost black. So good. Not chocolate or roasted aroma. Flavor brings out roasted first and then choc. Some tobacvo and immediately after some anise. Just a bit. Earth. Sot is comp, etely avoided. Very good.

Bottle pour, color is black, generous head fades to 1/4", decent lace. Aroma is bread, something sharp (spice?), raisin, coffee. Flavors of raisin, coffee, spice (rye?), cider. Finish has a sour hoppiness. Starts sorta sweet, finishes sour and hoppy like a good black IPA. The body is nice and thick, moderate carbonation.

Really damn strong, and it had a good flavor. For some reason, though, something just isnít perfectly right.

At the Big Texas Beer Fest on 4/5/2014. Bottle pours black creamy white thick head. Aroma is thin with some roasted malt, and light marshmallow notes in the back. Taste is thick pungent, that envelopes all of your taste buds, big thick chocolate, sweet, syrup, like candy.

Pours black, finger thick, creamy khaki head. Aroma milk chocolate, coffee, roast malt, molasses, anise, slight alcohol. Taste roast malt, bitter sweet chocolate, coffee up front, black malt, molasses, slight anise and alcohol mid mouth, slight earthy, bitter sweet chocolate and alcohol on the finish. Full body, slightly dry finish, low carbonation, good alcohol bite and slight astringency from roast malt. Overall very tasty, well made, many flavors all balanced nicely.

I donít usually dig on dark beers, but this one is phenomenal! Dark and bold. Lots of chocolate flavors and a bit of a smoky finish. Very smooth for 9.5% alcohol.

Comes out of the bottle a deep, warm sable with a thick tan head. Aroma has notes of roast malt and fine coffee plus hints of caramel and woody hops. Smoky malt core supports tones of charred wood, roast quality coffee, caramel, chocolate and toffee. Smooth, fairly firm texture leaves a smoky and caramel finish. Yeah, so who needs Miley Cyrus?

Bottle: Pours a deep brown color with a finger of rich brown head. Nice retention throughout. Sturdy roast, burnt sugars, and dark fruit. Fairly sweet, more than I find desirable. Molasses too. Burnt meets sweet. Has a decent weight for being so sweet and syrupy, but I donít find myself to be a fan of this.

Dark brown/black, tan head. Aroma of clean roast, bakerís chocolate. Flavor: roast, dry bakerís chocolate, nutty notes, a little licorice, very light toffee notes (this is a little drier with less sweet toffee and burnt sugar notes than some imperial stouts). Deceptively easy-drinking for an imperial stout.
