Really damn strong, and it had a good flavor. For some reason, though, something just isn’t perfectly right.

12oz bottle from Crafted Drafts. Black pour with thin tan head. Aroma of sweet brown sugar, roasted malt, chocolate. Tastes are the roasted barley, chocolate, light licorice, dark fruit. Well balanced. Slight metallic vibe in the bitter finish.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz. bottle. Pours a thick, well retained light beige head, with heavy lacing, over a clear, brownish black body......nose is heavy roasted malts, with coffee, hints of chocolate, hints of dried fruits, plum, raisin, light hops note, balance to the malts......taste is lightly sweet, with heavy coffee, hints of chocolate from the roasted malts, very light hints of dried fruits, finishing moderately bitter, from the roasted malts and hops, balance to the malts.....mouth feel, medium body, slightly sticky, alcohol warmth present, carbonation makes a creamy mouthful. This is a relatively simple Imperial Stout. The roasted malts are quite dominant, and it lacks some of the malt depths frequently found in this style. More caramel, crystal would make a better beer with more depth. Also the esters are low, so would a different yeast make a better, more complex beer? BJCP 7/3/13/4/6

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at blue moon grille. Pours pitch black with a medium sized brown head that dissipates slowly. The aroma has a lot of roasted malt and milk chocolate. The taste has a big milk chocolate, coffee bitterness, dry bitter roasted malt. Good but average for the style.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle shared at the Great British Beer Festival 2014, Day 1 - London. Thanks to James! Pours black-brown with a creamy, tan head. Earthy, with old grapes, burnt malts, roast, alcohol. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Warming finish with strong char, bitter cocoa. Not very cohesive.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pitch black. Barely any head (light brown, quiet). Aroma gives toast, nuts, cacao. Have a sip and you get the same, plus dark fruit. Nicely dry for an imp. Stout. Rich, bittersweet finish. Very drinkable for the abv. Good.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pitch black coloured body with a two centimetre tall deep brown head and literally no light at all passing through the body - 100% opaque. Aroma of roasted malt, alcohol, coffee, chocolate, hops, vanilla, molasses and a bit of raisins too - very nice and pungent, but still relatively subdued. Full-bodied; Rich roasted malt flavours with hints of cascade hops, alcohol, oak, soy sauce, molasses and even some whiskey at the end. Aftertaste shows a more rounded flavour of chocolate and figs with a lot of bitterness from hops, oak and roasted malts, but only a light alcohol burn hits on the palate and this time from a very nice whiskey flavour. Overall, a well balanced imperial stout that is still showing some hop notes and leads with a complexity that hits hard and doesn’t overburden with alcohol - nice indeed and well worth bringing back and keeping on hand for a year to mellow out some of the flavours. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Belmont Station in Portland, Oregon on 27-September-2013 for US$6,23 sampled at home in Washington on 05-October-2014, just over a year after purchasing this one.

Am I missing something? Why the low rating? This beer is incredible. NoLi. A wonderful chocolate beer. Chocolate aroma and chocolate taste. Very sweet and yet balanced one of the best chocolate beers I've had. Creamy mouthfeel. Thin head.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Haggen’s Grocery, Woodenville
Mild roasted malt aroma, more pronounced roasted malt flavor, cardboard, milk or lactose, and too much liquorice; moderate residual sweetness.
It plays too much with the liquorice and oxidization, hence it’s a bit heavy for me.
