This is coffee bean and chocolate on the nose. Not your typical deep espresso, but ground coffee. Some caramel, cinnamon, and allspice. Hazy brown in color with minimal off white head. Body is thick but not full, if that’s possible. More dry coffee flavors top the nuts, caramel, and milk chocolate. This beer is not sweet, not bitter, and not boozy. Just not sure about this one. Need time to explore.

S: Roasted coffee, molasses, brown sugar, coffee beans, cinnammin, and overall just a rich coffee smell. P: Reddish/brown with a thin head, a very murky beer. T: Coffee, with a heavy spice, some cinnammin in there, nutmeg, rye, charred malt, with a light warm finish from the booze. M: Its light and syrupy and there is just a hint of roast in this beer. O: Not too famialiar with winter warmers but this wasnt bad.

Pours a cloudy brown with a nice head. Strong aroma of coffee with some hazlenut. Taste has more coffee with some roasted malts. Long finish.

Short: Robust coffee experience in winter warmer form

Long: Low haze, red amber pour with large, yellowish head. Great lacing. High carbonation/nucleation. Nose is really nice spiced latte- dense, rich, assertive and impressive to three craft beer newbies. In taste, there is a bit of a charred, seasoned tomato along with the intended mocha flavors. Mild lemon juice acid from coffee extraction. Not harsh or overly sour though like most coffee beers. Nice to see Portola and Noble working together to make some of the world’s best coffee beers. Still needs work, but lots of talent here.

piney citric spicy lightly sweet oxidized coffee. Lots of oxidation. Sherry. lightly creamy feel. Bittersweet finish

Two breweries that know their way around coffee beers. Nice strong coffee grounds presence. Cinnamon fades in and out but is always a background player. Has a nice warming feel as well.

You can smell coffee, almost like apple cider, other spices the look a merky dark brown, the taste is almost hard to describe. I would say it’s a cross between a pumpkin ale that has met a stout. The cinnamon is very strong. This one could use some more ABV, 9 isn’t enough for this super complex beer.

On tap @ Noble Ale Works. Dark amber pour with a finger of khaki head. Nose is rich coffee, toasted nuts, caramel, and candied fruits. Lots of coffee, in fact. Notes of dark chocolate, too. Nice sweetness to the flavor. Tons of caramel, dark fruit, and toffee. Really strong coffee character. Nice nutty, toasted character. Some chocolate, dates, and plums. Quite nice.

Nitro tap at the brewery. Pretty deep amber brown pour with an offwhite head. Aroma is big and nutty roasted coffee. Absolutely delicious roast nose, but very little else. Flavors are elegant coffee, big toasted malt, and a very light hint of cinnamon intermixed with alcohol warmth in the finish. Creamy body and carbonation, lightly warming.
