3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
My Bottom Line:
Coffee and roasted chicory allusions ride vanilla and chocolate in this soft dessert of a brew.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-There is a lot of lacing atop the dark brown haze.
-Bitter hop resins appear to balance out the finish.
-These brewers arenít shy with bittering hops...
-Drinkability is high enough.
On tap at the brewery taproom.

Top notch local porter. Smokey and chocolately. Had a draft pour at the Carolina ale house black in color with a tan head. Smells chocolatey.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft at Charlotte airport. Poured black with brown edges, slight head. Aroma was faintly sweet dark chocolate and espresso. Flavor was fortunately not sweet, lots of chocolate, faint coffee, and a coconut finish. Bitterness balanced. Very enjoyable. Need to keep an eye out for NoDa, really liked both of the beers I tried from here.

Draft at Old Mill. Pours dark ruby brown with a fizzy tan head and lots of lacing. Tastes like dark bitter chocolate, very roasted malt, burnt toast, and a syrupy sweetness. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like dry cocoa, chocolate syrup, and light alcohol.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Serving: Draft at A Taste of Carolina in the Charlotte airport. It pours a deep brown color. Roasted nuts in the nose with a little maltiness. The taste has plenty of roasted malt, nuttiness, slight mineral notes, a touch of bakerís chocolate, and a bit of bitterness. Comes across as more like a dry Irish stout or robust porter than just a regular porter. Either way itís pretty darn good.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Enjoyed this on draft, poured a solid dark ruby color with a khaki head, looks respectable. Aroma is strong on cocoa and coffee, taste is simply coffee and hops. "Coffee and hops" is what comes to mind throughout, with some vanilla accents. Finishes with a smooth light coffee and dark chocolate finish. Rich, medium-bodied. A well-executed porter.
