3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 hophead75 (2005) - Largo, Florida, USA - JUN 21, 2006
sampler. Very dark brown, almost black with a tan head. Aroma is of smoky malt, some grain, roasty. Taste is smoky, malty, slightly roasty- some balancing bitterness. Different, I wouldn’t think this was a traditional brown ale but I enjoyed it.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Zeswaft (1144) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAY 2, 2006
I wouldn’t give this any award. This was hugely smoked. Some girl insisted it tasted like bacon. She wasn’t too far off. It’s an interesting brown ale to say the least.
3.2 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 10/20 austinpowers (2827) - New York, New York, USA - FEB 1, 2006
Citrusy, thin and light in body with a touch of roast to round out the flavor. Uneventful, like Nodding Head Brewery itself.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Probiere (992) - Iowa, USA - JAN 31, 2006
Burnt char, woody acidity, chocolate notes, dark and toasty, but too acidic, too burnt, too ragged, and not smooth.
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20 xproudfoot (729) - Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 14, 2005
Draught @ NH’s brewpub. deep black with look and its gone small head. the malts have a briney, sea salty flavor, subtle dark-bitter chocolate, full viscous body. quite smooth and has a light finish. earthy and very little carbonation. agreed this could be a good session beer, especially if you don’t want any sweetness in your dark session ale...
2.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 5/20 beervana (781) - Libertyville, Illinois, USA - DEC 9, 2005
On tap at the Nodding Head Brew pub, Philadelphia, PA. Dark brown hued English style brown ale having small white diminishing head. No discernable carbonation. Sweet malt aroma. Medium bodied that starts with slightly sweet malt and toffee flavor. Finishes with slight sweet malt aftertaste. No discernable hops and bitterness. A good drinkable malty session beer.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 PWalk (337) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 17, 2005
One of my early favorites that I’ve lost contact with through the past couple of years. An extremely drinkable brown with a good malt flavor through out.
3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Sammy (5888) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 13, 2005
very drinkable session ale. I seem to have enjoyed it far better than people in 2003 and 2004. So perhaps they have tinkered with it. Rich malt with some bitterness. Dark brown and lace.
