Dark brown beer with a thin tan head. Aroma is lightly phenolic as well. A bit of earthy chocolate in the nose. Malty sweetness with more caramel obvious through the middle. Slightly astringent toward the back of the palate. The body is initially full-bodied, but it seems to thin the more of it you drink. It’s okay, but it’s no brown ale....

Poured dark brown. Aroma of malt, nuts, slight honey, toffee. Tastes slightly light on mouthfeel, with hints of malt, brown sugar, nuts, and chocolate. Nice complexity and well balanced.

6 oz sample at the brewpub. Very light chocolate-malty nose emanating from a creamy, near black, opaque oily surface with a super-creamy lasting head. Nuts, chocolate, and a smidgeon of rosemary in the flavor; could have more heft but otherwise quite good.
