Prcaus (159), New Jersey, USA Oct 8, 2007 Draft-Nodding Head Center City Philadelphia. Dark Brown ale, came highly recommended but not a big fan. It does have a slight chocolate/earthy flavor but overall nothing overwhelming and not enjoyable to me when it was serviced lukewarm. Its still better than Monkey Knife fight...
WISEGUY572 (1244), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 17, 2009 Not huge but pleasant beer. Dark brown, small tan head, vanishes with moderate lace. Sweet nose, chocolate and coffee. Sweet taste to match. A bit thin compared to most American stouts, but correspondingly low alcohol makes it an appropriate session beer. Wiseblood (658), Clarksville, Tennessee, USA Sep 22, 2009 Very dark brown color with a small tan head. Very sweet aromas of caramel and chocolate. Smooth, malty flavor is very sweet, packed full of caramel up front, followed by some chocolate. Thins out as it goes along. Smoky malt aroma. Black strong in alcohol and a little rich on the palate with a crisp and slightly dry malt finish. decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Aug 5, 2009 Deep brown pour with hints of ruby red. Burnt malt aroma domintates. Chocolate/cherry flavor stands out. Medium bodied with low carbonation. WeeHeavySD (2942), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Jun 21, 2009 A beer, my girlfriend has always loved, and not that I wasn’t trying everything they had, but I knew I had to have this. Pours blackish with a 1 finger tan head. Nose is deep malty. Taste has some nice choconess, syrupy and pretty decent. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Mar 23, 2009 Tap at the brewpub. Smells like burnt rubber tires, or maybe burnt out clutch. Yuck. Rubbery, chemical flavor, with a mild chocolate. Low carbonation, a bit nutty in the finish. A bit of an odd-ball beer. I appreciate the effort, I guess. JoeMcPhee (4911), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Mar 18, 2009 Dark brown beer with a thin tan head. Aroma is lightly phenolic as well. A bit of earthy chocolate in the nose. Malty sweetness with more caramel obvious through the middle. Slightly astringent toward the back of the palate. The body is initially full-bodied, but it seems to thin the more of it you drink. It’s okay, but it’s no brown ale.... blipp (1632), Newark, New Jersey, USA Mar 6, 2009 Draft. Pours deep brown with a thin beige head. Light sweet malt aroma with a hint of roast. The flavor has a nice sweet/roasted malt balance with a hint of hops in the finish.
