Not huge but pleasant beer. Dark brown, small tan head, vanishes with moderate lace. Sweet nose, chocolate and coffee. Sweet taste to match. A bit thin compared to most American stouts, but correspondingly low alcohol makes it an appropriate session beer.

On tap at NH. Dark pour, with lace on the glass. Sweet, malty aroma. Well balanced, with flavors of coffee and grains. A little tang and bite, but malty overall. This excellent BA could be a session brew.

On tap at the brewpub in Philly on 7/23. I liked this a lot, very good example of the style. Some chocolate and coffee sweetness, some background nuttiness. Easily the best beer I was able to taste at the brewpub. Brown ales don’t get enough love.

On tap at the brewpub. Beautiful Guinness-looking black pour with foamy, creamy beige head. Aroma of coffee grounds, caramel, and nuts. Flavor has a big chocolate malt character with lots of caramel in the background. Nutty with moderate caramel stickiness. Sort of a robust session beer. Quite enjoyable.

From tap at the brewpub. Pours hazy dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is dark roasted malty, slight liqourice and dark breadish. Bitter, herbal and slight spiced to a toffee dry dark malty flavoured. Bitter and dark roasted malty finish.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 DiarmaidBHK (1392) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 4, 2011
This place seems to have a habit of making beers that look like they’re going to be delicious and then fail to delivers. Has a faint maltiness on the nose. Getting a very slightly roasted coffee note on the tongue. The problem with this beer lies in the palate. It’s incredibly watery and has no linger to it.

Old rate. Sampled at the brewpub in Philly. Pours a deep brown with a long lasting cream head. Aroma is roasty/nutty malts little bitterness. Taste is much the same. Not too watery as many brown ales seem to be. Extremely drinkable and smooth but not anything more than you would expect for the style..

Very solid brown ale. The pour is dark brown like that’s a surprise with a thin head. The aroma has some malt and bread along with caramel and a touch of chocolate. The flavor has the same elements with a nice roastiness to balance everything. Nice long lasting after taste.
