swirl (267), collingswood, New Jersey, USA Apr 11, 2005 A strong barleywine with a great amber appearance. A good balance of hops and malt in the aroma with a buttery taste. dirtymike (2019), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Feb 29, 2004 GABF '03, deep copper in color with a trace of a white head.Well balanced between hops and malt, alcohol is present but not overwhelming. dberger624 (1029), Phila, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 14, 2003 Cask at the Grey Lodge in Phila. Nice solid barley wine. Smooth with a hint of hops. fishman (349), Philadelphia, USA Dec 13, 2001 Surpisingly light color for a barleywine, some hoppiness, doesn’t do a great job masking its alcohol, but its decent none-the-less. Very smooth, and almost buttery, great to keep you warm on a cold night. Sadly, only served in small brandy snifters at the brewpub. Toiletduck (20), Philadelphia, USA Nov 19, 2001 Typical barleywine for the most part. It might just be me but I’m beginning to notice pretty uncanny similarities in the yeasty flavor of most Philadelphia-based beers.
