fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA Feb 21, 2009 Tap at the brewpub. Aroma of sweet, malt, sugar, some spices, maybe some pear and plum as far as the fruits go. Flavor again very sweet with occasional fruity and spicy notes, but basically just sweet at the end of the day. Heavy mouthfeel. Not stellar. Dickinsonbeer (3434), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jan 25, 2009 BCTCWC. Pours a deep dark amber, slight haze and a thinning head. Aroma is tons of fruity esters, plum, raisin, apple, and apricot- sharp sweet caramel and dark crystal malts with a sharp spicy phenolic kick. Flavor has that sharp twang goig on from over the top sweet sharp crystally malts, and overload of fusel and fruity esters- spicy as well- black pepper adn almost a cardamon and licorice hit in the end- earthy and leathery in the middle but overall just too much going on here and it seems jumbled together. Meh. LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Jan 10, 2009 On tap at the brewpub. Pours a deep amber with a very small head. Aroma of melon rind, yeast, spices. Flavor is very sweet and melony, not very good and kind of odd. This is one of those poorly brewed Belgians and it should be avoided.
6/4/5/3/12 (3.0/5) santos999 (318), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 6, 2009 Pretty damned delicious Belgian Ale. Clean esters with beautiful fruit and spice notes. Clearly fermented to perfection, with great balance of sweet and spice. Creamy and full in the mouth. My favorite and Nodding Head. egajdzis (3602), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 3, 2009 Poured a clear amber color with a small, thin, off white head that left no lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark fruits, candy sugar, banana, and raisins. Taste of caramel malts, dried fruits, candy sugar, vanilla, and a bit of raisin, with pronounced alcohol in the finish. TomDecapolis (3130), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 1, 2008 Sample at PCBF 08. Pours a translucent deep amber with a bubbly/creamy off white head. Aroma of sweet malts, toffee, Belgian yeast esters and some brown sugar. Flavor was also kind of malty and sweet, some Belgian yeast esters, a little fruity and some nutty notes. swirl (267), collingswood, New Jersey, USA Apr 11, 2005 A nice dark amber color with a sweet malt aroma. The flavor offered some fruitiness. Not the favorite of the evening but a truly interesting beer. motelpogo (4394), Plzen, Czech Republic Jul 16, 2004 reddish-purple, flat, whiff of icing sugar and some date and fig in the aroma. quite syrupy, hint of pear schnapps, quite well-balanced with a pleasant warming finish
