750 ml corked and cage bottle. Muddy brown, fading tan foam. Aroma is dark fruity, caramel, malty. Taste is thicker sweet malts, dark fruits, caramel/toffee, hint of chocolate. Softer carbonation, medium bodied, lightly hopped. Becomes more vinous as it warms. NFL (Not For Lagerboys)

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at home. 2 years old. The colour is deep, reddish brown and is quite unclear. Beige head. Sweet aroma with dried fruit, chocolate, caramel, Belgian yeast, wood, leather and some alcohol. The flavour is similar with more raisins, licorice, wood and leather. Has slick and silky mouth feel, and a light bitterness. A sweet and nice dark Belgian ale.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
330ml bottle, 9% ABV: BBD end of 2016. Poured into a Gordons badged thistle shaped glass at home on 5th Dec 2014. Nice red hue to the dark body, on top a full tanned even foamed head. Sweet malty and spicy aroma, plenty of alcohol like esters in the nose too (can you actually smell alcohol?). Sweet flavours within the taste, malty molasses, cinnamon and other wintery yet sweet spices. Good body depth and a very nice Christmas beer: thanks to my darling wife for bringing it back from Brugge for me.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Deep burgundy Christmas ale, malty and yeasty with good fruitiness and some roasted bitterness in the finish; the spicy touch of buckwheat also comes through nicely. It’s been a long time since I tasted this, I’ll try to re-rate if it is still produced in the coming winter beer season.

18/IV/14 - 75cl bottle from Kerstbierenfestival 2013 (Essen) @ home - BBE: 2014 (2014-370)
Clear dark brown beer, small creamy beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: lots of banana, some chocolate, caramel, pretty spicy, sweet and sugary. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet start, lots of caramel, overripe banana, little bitter, hint of mocha, some chocolate. Aftertaste: little sourish, green apples, cider, red fruits, bit of mocha, some aniseed, overripe bananas, sugary, some raisins. Not the worse, surprised about the many low ratings.

This one poured a lighter brown woclor with a beige head. aroma was of candy sugar, some drk fruits and spices. Flavor was similar, a bit off and metalic, lacking in refinement of other top belgians

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Another random one from Oblivion. This Belgian ale was overall thin and a tad on the dry side, but on that note the alcohol was very well hidden. It tasted and smelled nutty with some soft yeast and caramel notes. Finishes dry with a touch of cherry.

Draft. Sweet aroma and flavor. Nice mouthfeel. Almost a little too sweet for me. Overall a great beer though.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Light nose, some caramel and fruity notes. Nice subtle sourness and tartness - a little different for the style. Light-bodied and not overly flavourful, but interesting, well balanced and tasty.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bouteille de 2012. Brun acajou, effervescence faible, col beige foncé et assez fin. Caramel, fruits noirs, un rien d’épices et de réglisse. Comme elle a bien vieilli, cette Noël sort du lot.
