COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer has changed ABV erratically during the years of production. Started at 7.5%, subsequently 6%, it stands actually (2009) at 9%. Only the brewery knows whether it will stay at this level, since they never bothered to signal differences, and always considered it to be the same beer...

Bottle, 250 ml. Vanishing tan head over a cloudy dark brown/red body. Fruit and spice aromas. Taste is slight sour/acidic with malt and spice flavors. Fizzy and a bit thin mouthfeel. Sourish and dry finish.

Lively carbonation as the bottle is opened. Strong full, fruity taste, some yeast on the tongue, pricly feeling from the carbonation. A little sweet and sour. A bit on the thin side.

UPDATED: JUN 29, 2010 Bottled, 25cl, 6% ABV. Dark brown with a reddish hue, topped by a huge, dense, beige head. A bit weak, but nice aroma with dried fruits, sugar and some alcohol notes. It is a bit watery, with flavors of sugar, malt, raisins and some sourness. Sweet finish with some vinous notes and hints of alcohol. I would like more body and maybe some spices, but it is worth a try though, and maybe worth putting away for some time. Rating: 6-4-6-3-12-3.1. 061108

Bottle, 33cl. 9% ABV, 2009 vintage. A dark amber beer, hazy, and topped by a small, beige head. Raisins and other dried fruits on the nose, some buttery and sourish notes too. Figs, some yeast, caramel and sweetness in the mouth, full-bodied. Sweet finish with dried fruits. A quite nice one, definitely a step forward from the former two vintages. 100115

Bottle conditioned, at Essen Kerstbierfestival 2004. Deep amber bronze, no head and moderate condition. Excellent spirity nose with buttery toffee, malt and slight earthiness. More muted in the mouth, with caramel and toffee mixed with a woody bitterness. Gentle caramel in the finish.

Big coarse offwhite head over dark red slightly hazy and barely translucent body with intense carbonation. Sweetish vinuous spicy aroma, somewhat watery, with notes of wood, bread, and cinnamon. Taste is slightly acidic and vinuous with notes of licorice and wood. Dryish aftertaste. Watery and thin mouthfeel. (0.25l bottle.)

UPDATED: JAN 9, 2010 Rerate, 9% version: 330 ml bottle Christmas 2009, bought in Norway at Vinmonopolet. ABV is 9%. Beautiful chestnut colour, clear first, gets murky when the yeast is poured in. Big beige head. Strong aroma of Christmas spices, malts and caramel, some vinous notes too. The mouthfeel is fuller and richer than the 6% version. The flavour is very malty and sweet, notes of Christmas spices, figs and candi sugar. Original rating: 250 ml bottle (2006), ABV is now 6%. Available in Norway (Vinmonopolet). Deep chestnut hazy colour, huge and creamy tan head. Pleasant aroma of dried fruits, candy sugar and oak, vinous notes. Flavour is slightly less complex, moderately spicy and herbal with some oaky and vinous notes, definitely acceptable but not quite as good as top notch Belgians. Mouthfeel could have been fuller.

(Bottle 75 cl) Hazy, amber coloured beer with a decent head. Unpleasant earthy, fusty nose. Taste mainly of cork and mildew. This bottle was definitely off. Pity. Needs a rerate sometime. 080102

Small beige head over stunningly beautiful red-brown beer. Nice nose, nutty, slightly oxidyzed (bottle 3 yrs. old), and somewhere a salty, smoked ham impression. Sweet, but aromatic malty and port-like flavour; oxydizing is more obvious, but in a very acceptable way: red fruit, alcohol, retronasal some walnuts. Slick but not sticky MF, alcohol obvious, and quite heavy body overall. Nice, but in 3 years this has aged a lot. Thankfully in the right way.

UPDATED: JAN 23, 2010 250 ml bottle 6% ABV. Hazy medium dark brown body with a thick, fast disappearing head. Interesting aroma, malt, sugar, dry fruit and some kind of sourness. This beer has a hint of something that reminds me of an old humid basement, the same feeling I get from some of the best sour Flemish ones. Sorry to say that this only valid for the first sip. Something is not right balanced here, this beer becomes boring and too watery. I will definitively purchase another one and lay it down a few years, maybe this will do the trick?

Re-rated as 9% ABV. 330 ml bottle. Amber body with a dense off-white head. Mild, but pleasant aroma of dry fruit, malt and caramel with some spices. Favor is sweet malt, caramelized sugar, dry fruit like fig and apricot. At 9% this become a much more balanced beer with a sweet and warming flavor.
