This beer has changed ABV erratically during the years of production. Started at 7.5%, subsequently 6%, it stands actually (2009) at 9%. Only the brewery knows whether it will stay at this level, since they never bothered to signal differences, and always considered it to be the same beer...

I runde syv på den store juleøltesten ombord på Fridtjofen des-12: den mørke fargen til tross var den lys i smaken. Meget smaksrik og med god drikkbarhet.

Pours a dark reddish brown with a small head. Diffuse aromas of dark fruits and dark malts. Something metallic also. Fruity in the mouth, dark malt, dried fruits, some balsam. Some unbalanced sweetness - a bit syrupy. OK Belgian Christmas beer although somewhat one dimensional.

750 ml bottle. Pours clear dark brown with light head. Aromas of roasted malt, licorice, and burnt sugar. Vinous and musty. Flavors of stewed dark fruit, wine vinegar, fresh tobacco, and spices. Not really a stand alone beer. Drink with your Christmas pudding.

2009 vintage bottle enjoyed at home
Pours dark brown with a nice tanned head. Smells of port, glühwein, malts, christmas spices and caramel. Taste is heavy sweet, quite malty, some yeast characters and roasty caramel. Light to moderate bitter finish. A good vintage bottle, some nice oxidation notes, quite balanced and smooth. I like the spices and port tones alot.

From bottle. Reddish brown. Very sweet, slightly too sweet for my very sweettoothed taste, with hardly any bitterness. That the alcohol content is as high as 9 % is hardly noticeable. Fruity, strawberry candy. Not as much spice and herbs as one could hope from a christmas beer. But very pleasant, in its sweet way.
