This had one of the biggest and most pleasing noses on any beer I have ever had.. Huge pine and Citrus floral that actually filled the room when it was poured into my glass.. Orange brown with a very nice thick off white head that lasted . Ample carbonation that helped the drinkability out being that this is a very hoppy beer. Fantastic balanced hoppy goodness going on here.. Lots of pine and grapefruit noted, but it was also malty and sweet. I found myself comparing it to 90min. The depth of the beer makes me think that it is neither a IIPA or a Barleywine jeffc666 (1889), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 4, 2009 Looks like a b-wine not an IIPA, dark ruby-brown, opaque. Thick creamy tan head. Nicely balanced sweet malt- pungent hop aroma. Flavor is very IIPAish. Hops dominate, malts are there as a vehicle of bitterness. Not bad but very pedestrian in a very competitive category. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 4, 2009 Bottle at Tampa tasting. Poured a reddish chestnut color with a significant eggshell head. Big hops in the nose with some caramel notes. Body is medium to full with soft carbonation. Flavor starts sweet chocolate malt then followed by a generous dose of American hops. Fairly sweet with warming alcohol. Finish is slightly bitter. Good! Butters (1637), Virginia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 2, 2009 Sampled at Springslicker’s Fish Fry ’09. Dark hazy brown pour with thin khaki head. Sweet berries and light chocolate and malt caramel. Alcohol burn in the flavor, with toffee and some pine. Okay, but I could live without it. And Waaaaay too expensive, and not worth the price. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jun 1, 2009 After a real dwahl on the ratings front I am inspired to rate this one. The presentation in the glass is a much deeper borwn than expected, with the haziness that comes from a bottle conditioning later in the pouur. The nose is a melange of good robust IPA hops and fine toffee notes that give it a great balance. The ABV is noticeable but not overtly so. As we get closer to winter in the southern hemisphere I agree that it is a better beer for the cooler months. A very good beer and fine introduction to a popular brewer. The $20 price tag for the beer is not a concern as it is worthy of the accolades given to it. sebletitje (1903), Tampa, Florida, USA

Aroma has notes of hops, dark fruits with currants, pine, wheat and roast.
Taste, malty, hoppy, with nice addition of dark fruits, some spices and light berry chocolate mouthfeel.
Thick palate with light bittersweet fruits and good abv. Some brown sugar.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 1, 2009 Tasted 5/24/09. 500ml bottle. Dark, murky brown hue. Finger width of beige head. Bright hops and subtle spices fill the olfactory. Rather full bodied with a nice dichotomy of dull and dry mixed with sweet and sticky. Great palate with a pronounced effervescence. Nice bitter hops. Graham cracker malts. Good sweet drink with a big palate. Solid brew! Kestral (198), Oslo, Norway
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 28, 2009 Pours dark amber, quite large tan head with tons of lacing. Aroma is inviting with sweet orange, sugars, caramel, raisins, nuts, and some alcohol.
Flavour is quite malty, roasted notes, brown sugar, alcohol, chocolate fudge, with a big citrus hop bitterness in the finish. Fairly smooth on the tongue, medium body. Complex and enjoyable. The sweetness is nicely balanced out by the big hop character.
