| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 10, 2009 Poured a decent light tan head for high alcohol beer and it mainly hung around. Body was a dark reddy brown and darker than what I was expecting. Bold aroma with quite a bit going on in there, herbal, pepper, vanilla, fennel. Smooth full taste, good bitterness and balance. soccer290 (135), Highland Park, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 8, 2009 16.9 oz bottle. While the bottle says Barley Wine-style Ale, the site says I-IPA, so I am intrigued. With the editors note attached, I trudge forward. Pours a dark red/brown color with a finger high off white head the disappears somewhat quickly. Smells very strongly of many different hops, as well as a fair bit of malt, and oddly enough, chocolate (took three smells to discern it). Tastes of light hops, and a chocolate (not like a bar, more like a chocolate truffle). Very bizarre taste, but it is quite smooth, though only medium-bodied. An interesting beer, but probably not worth the price. As far as the barley wine vs. I-IPA debate, I would say it is an excellent version of both, though I would not suggest attempting a recreation. Pours deep brown with a 1 finger tan retentive head. Medium bodied, somewhat fine carbonation. Fruity ester aroma. Flavor toasted andwet grains, as well as dark caramel. Moderate attenuation. The hops are faded, which this beer really needs. Finish is semi- dry with heavy notes of fig. My guess is that this was better when it was first released. altonbrownd (1888), Amsterdam, Netherlands

Sweet up front, then gets very hoppy. Smooth and goes down well. High ABV very well hidden. Finish of malts, raisins and toffee. Lovely.
