robforbes (1083), Bremerton, Washington, USA Apr 26, 2009 pours a dark brown with a medium size beige head, and good lacing.
smell of grain, toffee, roasted nuts, malt, and brown sugar.
taste is creamy, burnt caramel, roasted malts, nuts, and brown sugar, ends just a little sweet and a little bitter. illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Apr 26, 2009 Bottle at Springslicker’s fish fry
Pours deep brown with a 1 finger tan retentive head. Medium bodied, somewhat fine carbonation. Fruity ester aroma. Flavor toasted andwet grains, as well as dark caramel. Moderate attenuation. The hops are faded, which this beer really needs. Finish is semi- dry with heavy notes of fig. My guess is that this was better when it was first released. altonbrownd (1862), Amsterdam, Netherlands Apr 24, 2009 Bottle from Cracked Kettle. Dark brown body with large head. Nose of sugar and hops. Sweet up front, then gets very hoppy. Smooth and goes down well. High ABV very well hidden. Finish of malts, raisins and toffee. Lovely. SaulusHumulus (47), Helsinki, Finland Apr 18, 2009 Bottled @ Opus K, Lohja, Finland. Batch 365 brewed 28.5.08. Appearance aroused some prejudices to this beer. Hazily dark brown, slightly greyish. Lots of yeast particles floating in the glass. Quite thin head lasts well. Aroma is really herbally hoppy with a hint of flowers. It’s also somewhat boozey ( gets highlighted even more when cold), sweetly caramelly, and spicy with coriander, and yet the aroma is slightly vapid. Flavor is slightly booze, herby hops, quite a lot of spices and sweet caramel. Quite a lot of bitter hops in the aftertaste. Lightly carbonated and as the beer warms also oily and viscous on the palate. There’s this booze coming through all the time , even though it also warms your stomach nicely. I really wouldn’t call this a DIPA. This is more like a mix of everything without it’s own, deepest essence, at least, I didn’t catch that. This was a disappointment to me, a grave one. I hate to give such low points to this but even with the most optimistic optimism I just can’t score this higher. I’m not giving up with this yet and should I get another chance to try this, I would. trapez (765), Hilleroed, Denmark Apr 12, 2009 Bottle. Nuts, ripe fruits and raisins and wine in aroma. Brown colour with light brown head. Bittersweet flavour with an alcohol aftertaste. A mixture af malt and raisins. elegant mixture of chocolatemalt and Simcoe hops. drjay44 (756), Salida, Colorado, USA Apr 11, 2009 16.9 oz. bottle. shared with Gabe. Pours a thickish, small bubbled head, with a bit of sediment staining, attractive lacing over a slightly cloudy, dark brown (SRM 20) body....nose of pine -Columbus and citrus -Centennial hops, with coffee/chocolate tones coming in.....tastes initially of heavy molasses, next coffee/chocolate then balancing hop come, with a pleasantly sweet, and bitter hop combination....mouth feel is thick and chewy with creamy carbonation. Rating as a DIPA. It would be a little light on the mouth feel for a Barley Wine. I really liked this brew. carruthm (1110), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 11, 2009 pours a dark brown with a large head that settles down leaving quite a bit of lace. aroma of some fruit spices, raisins, hops,
