VERY malty nose, it even smells syrupy. some booze and some wood in the nose and flavor. comes across as an extremely potent brew, yet still enjoyable. MaltDawg (778), Richmond, Virginia, USA

Finish is slightly sweet with touch of residual bitterness. mgermani (864), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 23, 2009 Pours a dark cloudy amber-black with a persistent thin tan head with some lacing. Aroma is lovely - pungent, sweet brown sugar and raisins. Flavour is slow to gather - about half a second before the ash hits, plenty of bitterness, acidic malt astringency, great lingering finish. Creamy with good carbonation. Nice, but not sweet enough for my taste. keepersj12 (787), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 21, 2009 The label calls it a barleywine so who am I to argue. Wonderful aroma and a beautiful brown pour with a huge light tan head. Flavor of wine is apparent in the first sip but is overwhelmed by the hops. Nicely balanced with a great after taste. nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Feb 18, 2009 500 mL bottle purchased from Green’s Beverage in Atlanta, GA. Poured an opaque brown color with a three finger, fluffy tan head that remained for what seemed like forever. The nose was very similar to a barley wine. Notes of brown sugar, molasses and alcohol were present, but notes of pine and citrus reminded me of a IIPA. It took a bit for me to resolve the aroma, but in the end, its great. The flavor is reminiscent of a barley wine as well, with a solid, sweet malt background, balanced with a solid resiny, bitter finish. I never found the chocolate malt, so it must have just been for color. The palate was just average, with a chewy, solid mouthfeel, a full body, and a carbonation that was way too fizzy. Overall, this was an excellent beer, and I’m glad to have tried it. I can’t wait to try my next bottle in about a year and see how this has aged. CheersMate1 (785), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 14, 2009 Dark brown in color with a thin head sitting on top. Decent looking beer. Very carbonated. Very malty. Nice texture. Alcohol is present. The beer has nice flavors. The description says that they use chocolate malts. I taste a subtle roast and nut type flavor from that. Just too carbonated for me. I like the aroma, nice and malty, and I think the taste is great. roder60 (1020), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 12, 2009 Poured a hazy dark brown color with a large amount of froathy bubbly tan head. Aroma is grapefruit hops, bit of raisins, slight oakiness, and sweet dark sugars. Flavor is an interesting blend - starts with a lot of toasted dark malts, very dry and bitter, slight chocolate, and a bit of light citrus. Overall, excellent beer. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 11, 2009 Thanks to 3Faveryrogue for sharing this. Pours dark brown with a fizzy tan head. Aroma is of malt, sugar, grapefruit, hops, and alcohol. Has a very bready, underlying aroma to it all. Taste is of caramel malt, citrus hops, dark fruits, chocolate, and yeast. Big alcohol bite, which warms immensely. Malt presence is way bigger than an avergae DIPA. This beer is a strange mix of a DIPA and a barleywine. It is well balanced though.
