HomeBrewHawk (263), De Soto, Kansas, USA Dec 27, 2008 500ml bottle, served in a snifter. Bottle conditioned. Pours a deep reddish brown with two fingers of off white head. Plenty of carbonation. Piney hops in the aroma at first. Malt comes out in the aroma as it warms. Deep malty flavor. Hop bitterness in the finish, but not as much as the aroma would suggest. Very balanced, not a hit you over the head beer. Chocolate malt and fruit develops as it warms. Alcohol is not really evident. Long dry hoppy finish. fidel (882), Livermore, California, USA Dec 25, 2008 Pours dark brown, dark fruit, brown sugar, caramel, hoppy, little roasty, dry finish. OD40oz (600), Box Elder, South Dakota, USA Dec 21, 2008 Updated: Jan 6, 2009Dark amber in color with a huge foamy head that lasts the entire life of the beer. Sweet smell. Sweet, chocolaty, roasty, somewhat smokey and slightly sour taste. Very complex beer. Sliky, creamy texture. Longlasting warm finish. I really liked this beer but not as much as Nogne Porter or Imperial Stout. Pours a very dark brown color body. .Huge foamy creamy tan head, extremely lasting, with okay lacing. Dark fruity aroma, hoppy, sickly sweet smelling. Strong raisin nose. Smokey taste. Light body. Dark coffee taste. Tasty. JohnQPublic (387), Brooklyn, New York, USA Dec 11, 2008 Pours cloudy brown with a huge, fluffy khaki head. Nose is loaded with citrus and pine, with a noticeable solvent-like alcohol note that is not unpleasant. Taste is sweet up front but a bit dry, caramel and a richer, lightly toasted presence dominate with alcohol and spicy hops peeking in. Citrus comes out in a big way with a burst of sweetness moving toward a long, dry, lingering heavy bitterness, wrapping itself around notes of resiny pine. Light carbonation, a bit soft, and a full body that leans just a smidge towards syrupy. All in all an impressive beer. Todeon (314), Sweden Dec 8, 2008 Bottle. Really dark IIPA indeed! Aroma is pretty light with some malt, chocolat and sweetness. Also some alcohol in there. Nice seducing red/brown color. small head. Taste is really sweet with lots of malt, caramel, chocolat, coffee and some alcohol. Almost some bready notes in there aswell. Kind of bitter finish with some alcoholburn. The malt is really dominating in this beer. Mouthfeel is creamy and good. Different and enjoyable! presario (2953), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Dec 5, 2008 Huge light brown head. Darkest IIPA I have seen. Relatively light aroma, malty with a promising hop nose. Big dry hop and alcohol flavor. Dry chocolate and strong malt could be a Barley Wine or IIPA. Each mouthful is a meal. Fills the stomach, the senses and then the alcohol wave hits.
