chimplechamp (463), Oslo, Norway Oct 18, 2009 another rarity in norway, but here in new jersey, i find my dad drinking it everytime i go home. pours brownishamber with a tiny beige head. sticking to the edges, nose is rich, caramel, some sort of flower i cant remember, clover honey, mead. big mead nose. taste is. well sticky mouthfeel, great balance between sweet caramel malt and bitter orange rind great mouthfeel that is sticky and syrupy without overdoing it. a beautiful brew. one of the best ipas i think ive had. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Oct 18, 2009 Bottle from Nickls, who brought it over for a tasting. We didn’t drink it at that point, and he left it here, then moved to Switzerland, so I’ve decided to drink it. I’d say that’s fair. Thanks, Nick :D
Pours is extremely murky brown with quite a nice head. Herbal, full, soupy aroma. Blunt, bitter flavor, very murky and yeasty and satisfying. Surprisingly easy drinking for a IIPA/barleywine hybrid. I dig. donfardz64 (406), Wellington, New Zealand Oct 15, 2009 Pours hazy deep red, nice foamy tan head.
Aroma has a lot of brown sugar and a strong citric hop character. Smells like a hoppy Barley Wine.
Sweet brown sugar initially, followed by grapefruity hops. The sugars really take over with a molasses and raisiny sweetness mid way through, but somehow the generous hopping manages to balance this perfectly. There is a slight roastyness throughout, and none of that 10% alcohol at all in the flavour.
Shit, I’m feeling this one! A sign of an amazing barley wine/IIPA gyllenbock (238), Stockholm, Sweden Oct 8, 2009 Bottle bought at Systembolaget.
The fragrance is wonderful, taste some chocolate, but above all a lot of hops, citrus and pineapple. Really great! Well balanced, long aftertaste. Lothore (276), California, USA Oct 5, 2009 A- Pours a dark brownish hue with a thin, earthy head.
S- Very malty, caramel, dark fruit.
T- Lots of dark fruit, caramel, and toffee notes without being sweet in the slightest. Dominant hop character from begining to end with a nice and bitter finish.
M- Thick with low carbonation.
D- This is a very tasty beer. Excellent to sip on on a cold night. darkguardian (506), Florida, USA Oct 2, 2009 16oz bottle. Pours a dark reddish brown with a big long lasting khaki head. Nose is oddly herbal hops, some grain heavy malt nose and a dash of caramel. A bit odd. Flavor is pretty god awful. Astringent herbal bitterness dominated, no real malt flavor, this is one of the worst beers I’ve had from Nogne. Not sure if its a bad bottle (I tend to think not cause others who had it from the area said it was bad as well) the only real nice thing I can say is it fades into a nice creamy caramel aftertaste after that odd herbal bitterness fades. bluebetty (88), Australia Sep 26, 2009 Pours is quite dark. Porter-like color with a good inch of foam. Good retention and some lacing on the glass. Nose is very sweet with caramel & toffee. Some citrus notes (hops I guess) with a little choclate also. Flavour is amazaing. Heaps oif agrresion but balanced at the same time. Plenty of hop bitterness offset by malt sweetness. Very very nice. Could see myself drinking a bit of this one. Very well balanced and tastes bloody good. PetetheMeat (546), Hove, Denmark Sep 23, 2009 Brown almost black. Beige small head. Hoppy aroma with notes of pine apples and cane sugar. Malty flavour at first. Chocolate. Then lasting hoppy bitterness. Underlying malty sweetness. Slightly sugarsticky palate. Lively carbonation. Alcohol. Excellent.
