Commercial Description:
Our 100th batch, brewed for the enjoyment of the brewers, but popular demand forced us to release it commercially. Most enjoyable in a comfortable chair in front of a roaring fire.

Recommended serving temperature 16°C/61°F Ingredients: Maris Otter, wheat, and chocolate malt; Columbus, Chinook, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23,5°P, 80 IBU, 10% ABV.

Editor's note: Even though the label says "Barley Wine" in the States, the brewery says it's brewed to be an IIPA. The American label was a glitch. In Europe it's sold as an IIPA.

Biggest head ever ever in the category for barleywine ... i heard rose neihland had a hand in this ... leaves a nice sticky hoppy sweet-bitter smack ... no abv detected ... a great no holds bar barleywine (american or IIPA?) ... LS

Deep brown-amber pour with a foamy off-white head that lasts. Aroma of caramel malt, brown sugar, grapefruit peel and alcohol. Sweet malt and light fruit flavor. Sweeter than your average IIPA. Long, slightly bitter grapefruit hops finish. A solid brew, but not a great IIPA.

pours a darker brown color than the bottle with burgundy tints when held up to the light. it’s topped by a soft frothy head and some spotty lacing. aromas of chocolate malt/dark grains, fruit, grass, brown sugar, a touch of molasses, pine and alcohol when it warms. the palate is just moderately sweet... for a dipa or bw! the flavors are rather faint... maybe restrained?... grainy/chocolate malt, earth, spice, grassy/herbal/almost generic hops. it finishes nicely dry and bitter with the hops stinging a little in the aftertaste. medium body is rather light from the lack of sugars. soft slick mouth feel turns a bit parching. it’s not great... but very refined and mellow. good for sippin’ on.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown/amber colour with an off-white tan. Aroma is hops and malt, caramel. Flavor is exceptional, caramel, nuts, malt. It seems the beer itself is also confused on wther to be a Barley WIne or an Double IPA. It seems to be somewhere in the middle. Very good indeed.

Bottle.

Pours a deep dark brown with a caramel glow. The aromas are all about the nuttiness, the barleywine toffees, even some roast -- but in the flavor, chocolate caramel and grapefruit pith, lovely full smooth mouthfeel with just a touch of heat. This is actually really solid, hard to characterize as either barleywine or IIPA not because it’s some kind of wild experiment but rather because it’s just a very nice beer for what it is and then later, when you try to categorize, the categories don’t quite fit.

This one reminds me of a mellowed-out Stone 11th Anniversary. Really nice.

500ml bottle from South Bay Drugs. Barley Wine? Double IPA? Has numerous characteristics from both styles. Pours a very dark brown, darker than most Barley Wines. A thin beige head with a tad bit of lacing. Good size amount of hops on the nose with some toasted malt and dark fruit. Finish was malty and quite bitter.

50 cl bottle shared with Ljunkan @ Bishop’s Arms - Karlstad. Impressive beer! Extreme bitterness, nutty and caramellish flavours. Excellent beer as always from Nøgne Ø. Cheers to our Norweigan friends!
