| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jun 13, 2008 Pour was dark with full tan head. Aroma was full of roasted malt. Real full body with flavors of more roasted malt, caramel, and some hops. Very smooth brew. Worth the buy. Would purchase again. plovmand (1603), Helsinge, Denmark
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 8, 2008 Updated: Apr 23, 2009Bottle. Pours dark brown with a huge fluffy beige head. A beauty. Dark fruits, caramel, coffee and off course american hops in the nose but also a metallic thing Im not so fund of. NOTE: At the rerate the metallic thing is gone. Might be the batch but could be that it dissapeared after 15 months in the bottle that really made this a gem. Lovely taste of cocoa beans, coffee, spices, raisins and citric fruits like grapefruit.

| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jun 3, 2008 0.5 L. Two-finger head that lasts atop this nearly opaque, nearly chocolate brew. Aroma is chocolate, caramel, earthy orange. Flavor is the same plus lots more: resin, coffee, toasted oak, char, peppery green herb, slight smoke. Heavy body is smooth, dryish and tingly. Tastes similar to Bigfoot. BW, or DIPA? Who cares? This is damn good! lemasney (398), Trenton, New Jersey, USA

Notes: The scent was of an active factory making furniture, sawdust and sweat, and smoke. The visuals were of a deep midnight under a new moon. The taste was of oak and walnut planks being sawn and tasted in the smoky air of an overheated blade. The palate is of a visitor who won’t leave, whether you wish her there or not, but luckily, you enjoy her company. It was quiet in opening and pouring like an evening springtime rain.

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 31, 2008 This has become one of my favorite BW/IIPAs. I love the darkness of it and the great bitterness at the finish. Toffee and strong malts also come through. 17thfloor (1447), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | May 31, 2008 Pours a viscous opaque dark brown with a fantastic creamy beige froth on top that craters out. Sweet molasses, vinous, malty aroma with some definite alcohol and funk. Thats an interesting taste. So dark and bitter. A little bit plasticy like Davinci points out. Toffee and chocolate, slightly nutty/vinous. The molasses flavor does make it taste very much like an imperial brown. The hops play a similar role like that in a barley wine. Mine has definitely sat for a while and mellowed quite a bit, well balanced. Very dry finish, chocolate. Fantastic mouthful, medium/full with fine subtle carbonation and very fluffy. Very unique. valpoaj (362), Valparaiso, Indiana, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 29, 2008 Pours medium reddish brown with a robust, thick head that takes a long time to settle...heavy lacing as well. Aroma is very complex...citrus hops (orange), roasted/chocolate malt, some yeast, and a heavy dose of spice. Flavor is heavy malt up front with some dark fruit flavors, then turns very bitter and heavy on the hops. I can see why this could be classified as a barleywine and an IIPA...I really thought this to be a hybrid of the two...hoppy characteristics in the finish, but the body and complexity often found within a barleywine. Palate is confusing...part of this wants to be a slow drinker as it is pretty heavy, but the bitterness adds an odd component to things. I’ll be honest, this really didn’t do it for me...albeit unique, the mixture of styles just took me for a loop and made this a difficult drink. Very complex beer, but complexity does not always equal a good beer in my book
