Vas19 (292), Maryland, USA May 6, 2008 Pours dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma of hops, caramel, and sour citrus fruit. Good texture. Taste is malty and hoppy with some alcohol on the finish. The flavor of this one just didnt do it for me. First Nogne I’ve been disappointed by. DocHop (278), Baltimore, Maryland, USA May 5, 2008 Pours a very dark brown with a tall and extremely creamy tan head. Aroma is a mix between malty sweetness and overpowering hops, caramel, chocolate, alcohol, and wheat. Wheat gives it an unbelievably creamy texture. Taste represents a strong beer. The caramel malts and chocolate flavor overwhelm the hop finish which really just ends up being a slightly dry and earthy alcohol taste which heats up as it lingers. beerguy101 (3861), Newark, California, USA May 3, 2008 Tasted at the April Northern California Beer Tasting. This Imperial IPA pours a deep amber brown color from a 22oz bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel and malt, with a fairly pronounced citrusy hop finish. A medium bodied 2xIPA. The malts are caramel and sweet. The hops are grapefruity and citrusy. Hey, it’s a west coast IPA… what do you mean its from Norway? Well, it’s not quite that hoppy, but you get the idea. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. Bragesnak (2223), Aarhus, Denmark Apr 30, 2008 From Superbrugsen, Aarhus, DK.
Bottled.
Very bitter hopped with grape fruit flavor. Alcohol is balanced to sweetness raphael (410), Portland, Oregon, USA Apr 27, 2008 A unique & well-made beer. Aroma of bitter hops, bubble gum & chocolate. Darkest brown with perfect dark tan head that last a good while. clean & aromatic in the mouth. flavors of sour cherry, caramel, a bass bitterness bridging the citrus & reiny, strong alochol flavor, a little sourness. very bitter finish with a little sticky lips. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 25, 2008 Bottle sampled with Mad Indian. Pours brown with amber edges and a large tan head. Aroma of caramel, fruit, black malt, and piney hops. The flavor is sweet upfront, caramel, fruit, and a piney bitter finish. Good body, exceptional brew. theisti (1637), Leawood, Kansas, USA Apr 22, 2008 500 ml bottle purchased at Bottleworks in Seattle, Washington. Pour is murky brown with some ruby highlights. The head is tan and quite big and fluffy (3 inches). Nice settling. Some very nice lacing is left behind on the glass. Aroma of sweet ripe fruit malt and pine hoppiness. There is also a dusty earthiness present. Taste is nice, the sweetness is more rounded and the pine hoppiness is quite bright with a nice resin freshness to it. The resin turns to a bit of burnt wood in the finish as it warms. The heat is fairly well masked. This reminds me a lot of a fresh "West Coast" Barley Wine or even Stone’s 11th Anniversary. I realize Nøgne made a Double IPA here, but the taste reminds me of that. Nice medium full body. Overall, a nice beer. nightrider (370), encinitas, California, USA Apr 21, 2008 Poured from the bottle and in the glass a dark brown shade with a thick tan head. Aromas of bitter hops and some smokiness. Very smooth and silken on your palate for sure. Good solid hops and dark maltiness. Long lasting flavors and hoppiness.Very cool lacing in the glass to boot. Another good brew from the boys in Norway.
