Davinci (295), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 13, 2008 Pours a dark brown almost black color with nice big tannish head. Some sticky lacing. Nose is caramel, combination of citrus and piney hops, some brown sugar, some alcohol notes. Very smooth balanced flavor. Some malty sweetness, piney/ citrus hops, slight alcohol tinle. Ends piney and resinous in flavor, but not really that bitter. There is a slight plastic note in the middle that’s a tad off for me, but not overly so. I definately feel this is more of an american barley wine than a IIPA. A very delicous beer none the less. TheBeerGod (3142), Newport News, Virginia, USA Apr 13, 2008 Bottle during Max’s 72 Hour Belgian Beer Fest. Dark brown pour. Near opaque. Nose is hoppy, malty with caramel and choco notes. taste is citrusy hops, sweet malts, caramel, and soft alcohol. Very "American"! Body is medium-full. Mild to moderate carbonation. Slightly oil feel at times. Ends with more citrusy hops, caramel, sweet malts, fruit notes and chocolate. Very tasty. Nice American style barleywine (well IIPA as they have it listed here, but I rated thinking this was a barleywine). SQNfan (591), Wheaton, Illinois, USA Apr 10, 2008 Dark brown in color with a moderate head of fine tan bubbles. Aromas of caramel malt, chocolate, citric hops. In the mouth it is medium to full-bodied with good sweetness in the that trasferred to a dry/bitter/hoppy finish. It showed caramel and made me thing of a Stong Ale until the hoppy finish. This will be an interesting one to age as it currently has many barleywine characteristics but the hoppy IPA edge. Gillard (42), Florida, USA Apr 10, 2008 Thanks Degarth. This pours a very dark brown with a slightly red hue at the top. Smells of Melons,Dark fruits, and hoppy. Taste is complex wiyh nalot od bitter hops that is battling a malty backbone... welldone Slayer85 (582), Firenze, Italy Apr 9, 2008 Updated: Apr 22, 2008Bottled. A hazy brown beer with a small and disappearing white head. The aroma is quite rich: hoppy (pine, grapefruit) with notes of caramel and a hint of chocolate. The flavour is quite sweet, aliitle bit unbalanced and syrupy, but not in an excessive way. Hoppy and caramelly, less chocolate than in the aroma. Full body, lively carbonation, medium bitterness in the finish, some alcohol is felt. A good beer between a IIPA and a Barley Wine. gunsho (134), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Apr 5, 2008 wow. this beer is great. pours easy with a dark rusted amber color and lively head. impressive in the nose. notes of raisins, caramel, spices, molasses. really impressive.

Pours deep dark amber, a bit hazy with large yeast particles. A medium sized light brown head. Aroma of malt, hops and fruit. Full body, a fruity hoppy taste with a nice, salty bitterness.
Maby Nögne should update their date-mark system?

:-) GMCC2181 (844), Bear, Delaware, USA Apr 3, 2008 OK I have seen the discussion on this.... It is listed as a DIPA, but the bottle says BARLEYWINE???. To be honest it taste like a IPA to me, but looks like a porter? I guess it is a hybrid. ********Bottle: Dark brown color, decent head. Aroma is sweet dried fruit and hops like a barley wine. Flavor is good amount of hops and malt, like a IPA. Smooth, nice blend. Texture is medium, low carbonation. No alcohol taste. Over all a solid brew. I would buy it again!
