Commercial Description:
Our 100th batch, brewed for the enjoyment of the brewers, but popular demand forced us to release it commercially. Most enjoyable in a comfortable chair in front of a roaring fire.

Recommended serving temperature 16°C/61°F Ingredients: Maris Otter, wheat, and chocolate malt; Columbus, Chinook, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23,5°P, 80 IBU, 10% ABV.

Editor's note: Even though the label says "Barley Wine" in the States, the brewery says it's brewed to be an IIPA. The American label was a glitch. In Europe it's sold as an IIPA.

500ml bottle at many locations and many times.I love this beer as it was my first foray into the world of craft-beer.It is certainly a hoppy brew, lot’s of citrus and grapefruit which mellows after time .It has a big malty backbone which contributes to making this more of American barley wine when it ages. That is part of what makes this such an interesting brew.

Bottle from Utobeer market stall. Pours a deep, dark brown. Good lasting beige head, leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Aromas of dates, chocolate malt, dark fruits. Flavours of malts, licorice, chocolate. Has a sharp alcohol kick akin to a decent single malt! Finishes bitter and hoppy.

As an imperial IPA, I think think aside from the 10% ABV, this beer misses the mark. The company bills itself as having strong American influence. This beer has a muted hops taste with a well balanced finish.....very un-American. I thought American IPAs were in your face hops, Dry/bitter finish. It is a good beer standing alone, but not when its compared to other double IPA’s. Thought this does remind me of Stoudt’s Double IPA

Dark brown pour, with a frothy ivory head, 1-2 fingers. Aroma holds buttered toast, orange and grapefruit hops, resin, caramel, and a bit of dark fruit. The American hops seem to blur the line between double IPAs and a US barleywine. Flavor holds lots of brown sugar, molasses, and caramel, but the citrus and resin hops are still quite evident. An interesting beer and not something that I would typically expect from a European brewery like Nogne. Clearly very well crafted, and I dig it overall.

Dark brown pour with an excellent one finger tan head. Aroma is highly dark sugar oriented with caramel, toffee, and a biscuity dough yeast character. Citrus character comes through as well, finishing with resin. Flavor is very sweet- caramel and molasses are massive, roast is quite noticeable, and sticky resin is highly prevalent. Palate is thick rich and silky with the slightest bubbly nature.

Has an opaque dark brown-ruby pour with an off-white and tan bubbled head, I see effervescence made up of tiny bubbles in the glass when held up to a light, leaves some to medium lacing on the glass, there is some dark sediment in the bottle, aromas of chocolate (reminds me of tootsie roll) with citrus hops, toasted malt, faint caramel, flavors of chocolate with toasted and roasted malt, dark bread, caramel and faint brown sugar sweetness, this ale appears to be made around chocolate (which is ok by me), this beer has a good dose of hop bitterness but I thought this fell short of a DIPA for hops on the nose and mouth bitterness, of course I do not know how old this bottle is and the hops may have fallen off a bit, mouth feel is medium or a little more, feels very nice on the palate with creaminess. This brew hides the 10% alc. very well, even at room temperature, I did not taste any alcohol. I thought this drink had an interesting mix with the chocolate and hops, the hops did not pound the tongue with hops as I was expecting, even so, this is very nice and I enjoyed this drink.

This was very good and more a barleywine than a DIPA to me. Big nose and body of dark fruit and sweetness, with some decent hop bitterness coming through, but not DIPA territory. A siper
