thornecb (1734), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Dec 14, 2007 Pours deep amber into a snifter. Tan micro head with excellent retention leaves sheet lacing as it slowly recedes. Very nice looking. Pine and resin aromas. Creamy, full and sticky sweet carmelized marshmallow upfront with a lasting grapefruit finish. Sweeter than a prefer, but excellent experience all-around. The burnt upfront sweetness matches the bitter finish perfectly. swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA Dec 13, 2007 Mr Goodbar Good Beer Club. Dark black IPA similar to Stone XI. Rare mix of piney hops, chocolate, roastiness, burnt. Enjoyable Full mouthfeel somewhat sticky. very good would like to try a bit more than the small sample I had Quake1028 (633), Tampa, Florida, USA Dec 12, 2007 Courtesy of Degarth. He’s a pretty swell fellow. Black pour, looks like Stone XI coming out of the bottle. Light tan, creamy head, 1.5 fingers thick and mostly diminishing. Recedes to a ring of foam that stays around for the duration. Nose of very green hops, pine cones, caramel, chocolate, toffee, dark malts and fruits. Some heat is apparent in the flavor profile, along with more hops, dark fruits and chocolate. It’s not really dominant in one flavor aspect. Very unique beer in the sense that it doesn’t look anything like what is smells or tastes like with regards to how heavily hopped it is. Low astringency, creamy and slightly sticky, but not cloying. Finish is very lengthy, lightly bitter and then fading into sweet fruits to finish everything up. In the end I don’t know if this beer is trying to be a Barley Wine, a IIPA or a Strong Ale, but whatever it is, it’s damn good. shp555 (1677), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Dec 12, 2007 Pours a hazy brown color with a tan head. Aroma is dark malt, roasty, and some resinous citrus hops. Flavor is malty, caramel, roasted malts, and a bitter resinous hops finish. Bockyhorsey (2483), Mesa, Arizona, USA Dec 10, 2007 Bottle. Aroma gives our a potent yeasty bread. Alswo some chocolate roast. Dark brown body with dark chocolate head, decent lacing. Flavor had an alcohol wollaop and for the most part yeasty wheat grains. Roasted malts are also present but alcohol hits hard. Body warming effect good session beer. zathrus13 (1288), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA Dec 8, 2007 Brown, with a tan head. Aroma is piney hops, with some roasted malt and chocolate. Flavor is piney hops, roasted malt, chocolate, and alcohol. Nice creamy body. ako (153), Turku, Finland Dec 8, 2007 Dark reddish amber, huge tan head. Stunningly beautiful. Kinda roasty aroma, pine, sweetness, juniper, you name it... Complex. Flavor has a ton of hops with a dark maltyness around there somewhere. Not nearly as sweet as the aroma promises. There’s the pine again. Feels like sucking a branch of a christmas tree. Not that I have tried. Exciting finish leaves you with a dry feel without much of the bitterness one might expect. I gotta give it a re-taste in, say, six months and see how it ages. Very promising so far. Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Dec 7, 2007 Updated: Dec 23, 2007Deep black-amber color with a thick then thin foamy whitish head. Notes of grassy cookies. Great hardy mouth feel and smooth complex finish.
