PhillyHomeBrew (176), Forest Hills, New York, USA Nov 14, 2007 Very dark body with a dark thick head. aroma is roasted malt and a tiny bit of hops. Long aftertaste of burnt caramel and bitterness. Arayaga2 (931), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 14, 2007 Almost completely opaque black with a medium height brown head. Sweet boozy floral aroma with hints of licorice. Taste is roasty and bitter with a resinous woody edge. My bottle, unlike this page indicates that this is a BWA rather than an IIPA, and I have to agree with the label on this issue. Singleminded bitterness clings to the palate long after the finish. $9/500ml PilsnerPeter (2585), Flushing, New York, USA Nov 14, 2007 Bottle: Pours a very deep brown with a burgundy hue in the light. The dark tan head fades a bit, but it’s consistent and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is of rich malt presence, giving it an underlying cocoa and cookie presence. The hops are there, but not that assertive, just giving it a resinous edge. Alcohol is evident as well. Creamy body with dense velvety bubbles. Nice malt character. Bisquity, slightly sticky body. A bit sweet with lots of roasted caramel and mild underlying berry-like fruitiness (elderberry?) There’s lots of apparent alcohol as well. The finish is a mesh of pine bitterness and roasted undertones. Pretty straight forward, lacks depth and balance, but it’s tasty. dchmela (1406), Orlando, Florida, USA Nov 14, 2007 Pours dark red with a thick off white head. Big hoppy citrus aroma (Cascade hops perhaps?). Nice malty taste with a big hop, grapefruit bitterness. Hints of fig, dark fruit come through later as it warms up. Mouthfeel is bitter, hoppy and finishes with a dry slightly dry grapefruit finish. cheeta (858), Langå, Denmark Nov 14, 2007 Heavy hoppy aroma with a touch of locorice. Large frothy light brown head. Excellent lacing. Very beautiful clear amber body. Heavy bitter coffee initial flavor, with a long finish duration. Full creamy palate. tennisjoel (931), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA Nov 12, 2007 I would consider this a barleywine versus an imperial ipa as it is listed. Caramel and vanilla, some piney hops in the background, which seemed more pronounced as the beer warmed. As a barleywine, I like them even hoppier, however, this is a pretty good attempt nonetheless. brewblackhole (1366), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Nov 12, 2007 My label also said barleywine, aroma is grainey malt and hops ,you can just smell that this brew will have that wonderful Baltic smoothness, and your not disappointed, taste is velvety caramel malt with a bg hop punch, and an enjoyable bitter finish,if this is a barleywine, its the hoppiest one I’ve ever had. For sure more of an Imperial IPA, again how good must this be fresh from the tap undsioux7 (550), Cologne, Minnesota, USA Nov 11, 2007 My bottle of batch #100 says "barleywine" so I am not sure if this is the right place for the rating or not.
Pours very dark brown w/ big tan head. Aroma of sweet malt, alchohol, resiny hops. Taste is same as aroma, but with some chocolate/caramel in ther as well. Will have to try this again with some age on it.
I don’t rate to style, but I am not sure what style this would be even!
