Commercial Description:
Our 100th batch, brewed for the enjoyment of the brewers, but popular demand forced us to release it commercially. Most enjoyable in a comfortable chair in front of a roaring fire.

Recommended serving temperature 16°C/61°F Ingredients: Maris Otter, wheat, and chocolate malt; Columbus, Chinook, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23,5°P, 80 IBU, 10% ABV.

Editor's note: Even though the label says "Barley Wine" in the States, the brewery says it's brewed to be an IIPA. The American label was a glitch. In Europe it's sold as an IIPA.

50 cl. bottle. Surprisingly good, dark brown beer with minimal white head and some sediment i the bottle. You don’t taste the 10 % alcohol, which is good. Well composed and a long bitter finish.

labeled as barleywine, sipped end of the bottle from Odeed @ Alesmtih BA release. pretty damn tasty can’t say it seems at all like a double IPA, but then again I had a nip. Had a better taste @ Glouglouburp’s place at a tasting. Sweet hoppy nice.

500ml bottle, labeled as a Barleywine. pours dark with a hint of red in it. pours creamy frothy tan head. nose just doesn’t seem that fresh, must have taken too long to get to chicago, well it’s not that hoppy at this point, some alcohol coming through, very nutty, caramelly, plums, charred wood, and some roast. there still some piney and citrus hop notes but really faded. i’m really not into the nose of this thing. flavor is nicely spiced, pleasantly bitter, with big caramel malt back bone, along with hints of chocolate, roast, dark fruits, and PNW hops. this actually reminds me a lot of decadence 06, however not quite as good. body is rich and creamy, and alcohol is noticed a bit too much in the taste and finish. nogne does carbonation really well. it’s too bad the hops are past their prime but I think this would age really nice.

Bottle. Average creamy light brown head, mostly diminishing. Red/brown body. Medium to full body. Heavy bitter flavor. Cirtus aroma.

Bottle. Nice tan head with excellent duration. Color is black. Aroma and taste are hops, roast malt, coffee and chocolate.

Bottle from Capone’s. Dark brown pour with a huge khaki head, although the head size may have been artificially inflated due to apparent unintentional bottle agitation. At any rate, this one looks great. Also, I am done with stylistic arguments, but this one is a lot more like a hoppy porter than a barleywine. It is actually a bit Alpha Klausy, with a heavy hop bill, a rich, complex palate, and flavor notes of roasty dark malt, big hops, chocoff, molasses, and some dark fruit. The fruit takes a back seat to the malt and hops, both in aroma and flavor. This one is yet another winner from Nogne, one of my current favorite brewers.

Bottle. I would sware the label said this was a barley wine. Nonetheless, big, flavorful, chocolatey sweetness dominates. Not a huge hop presence. Was my bottle mislabeled. Not true to the style, but very good.
