aru (105), Smørum, Denmark Sep 15, 2007 A very dark and powerful mouthful. Maybe a bit too sweet, but in general a very good beer. JK (2943), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Sep 11, 2007 Brewfiend did an international trade to get this so I can at least thank him for it. Muddy brown appearance like river water. I have no idea I am about to drink an IPA from the looks of this. Alcohol and citrus hop aroma. Flavor is packed with bitter hops, and not quite balanced by good, lightly sweet malt. OSLO (825), Perth, Australia Sep 11, 2007 [Bottle, thanks a lot Brewfiend!] Pours a very cloudy dark brown with a light cream head. Aroma actually isn’t too hoppy--mostly malt and caramel. Taste is citrusy, with some roasted malt. Very low bitterness for an IIPA. Quite thick. Very unique beer where the aroma didn’t match up with the taste much, and the beer didn’t match my expectations for what it would be like. Skyview (3931), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Sep 10, 2007 Special thanks to brewfiend for sharing this brew. From a 12-oz bottle pours a hazy dark brown brew with a fast dissolving tan head that leaves behind a swirly film and some lacing. Aroma of sweet citrus zest, burnt brown sugar, some toffee and plenty of alcohol. Taste is medium to full bodied, some carbonation with a smoky dark malt and sugary citrus flavor. Finish is quite metalic and semi-sweet with plenty of alcohol to keep the body quite warm. BDR (2139), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Sep 10, 2007 Thanks to yesper for this trade. Murky brown body with faint head. Citrus hops, toffee, burnt malt and alcohol on the nose. Lots of citrusy flavor with more toffee and definite burnt malt flavor. Alcohol does a nice warmer. joebrew (608), Farewell Minny; Hello Puyallup, Washington, USA Sep 10, 2007 Thanks to Brewfiend for sharing. Pours a dark, smokey, burnt brown, with a nice white head. Super citrus on the nose with a light dose of toffee-like sweet malt. Not too terribly hoppy on the front, with the candi sugar and toffee dominating, but the hops do come out in the finish to make for a killer finish. Very nice balanced IIPA. uhre (339), Denmark Sep 1, 2007 Updated: Apr 1, 2008You can feel the alcohol in the aroma and the toaste malt, but also some fruit and hops. The flavor is very sweet of malt, fruit but there is also a burned aftertaste. Besides that the alcohol is warming your tongue.
Jukkabro (2981), Tampere, Finland Aug 29, 2007 Near black colored, red hints. Medium sized beige head. Not very IPAish outlook. But aroma is: flowers, hops, yeast, caramel, some spices even, licorice, and this is still cold, this excellent aroma may even be richer when getting warmer. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is even more intense: licorice is stronger with of course obvious caramelly sweetness, hoppy-flowers also there. Aftertaste turns to dry with yeast and licorice, mild alcohol gives warming mouthfeel.
Roastiness comes only in aftertaste. Still more sweet than dry brew.
