Commercial Description:
Our 100th batch, brewed for the enjoyment of the brewers, but popular demand forced us to release it commercially. Most enjoyable in a comfortable chair in front of a roaring fire.

Recommended serving temperature 16°C/61°F Ingredients: Maris Otter, wheat, and chocolate malt; Columbus, Chinook, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23,5°P, 80 IBU, 10% ABV.

Editor's note: Even though the label says "Barley Wine" in the States, the brewery says it's brewed to be an IIPA. The American label was a glitch. In Europe it's sold as an IIPA.

Tested 14/10-05. Bottle: Dark brown, clody colour. Aroma of Lots of bitter casade hops! This beer is exploading in my mouth. In the begining the sweet malty, and then Lots of hops is atacing . The finish is smuth and have a long finish.Full body! This is the first Double IPA I have tested, and it is definitive the best!

Good strong aroma and a dark brown colour. Excellent palate, with a good long aftertaste. This one keeps me wanting more.

My 100th rating on RateBeer, and what could possibly be better than a bottle of #100 from Nøgne Ø? 50cl bottle from Barley Wine. Batch 326. It poured a dark brown colour with a big beige foamy head that settles down slowly in the glass. It has a spicy aroma that mells of citrus, cinnamon, and pine trees. The flavour is complex and tastes of roasted malts, coffee, alcohol and spices. It has a long aftertaste.

Pours a very dark, opaque brown with garnet highlights; head is light tan, full, creamy, and fluffy with excellent lasting ability and nice lace. Nose is certainly unique with pine resins, grapefruit zest, dark chocolate, plum, and light hints at burnt wood, roasted malts, and molasses. Flavor is much of the same as the nose with every sip finding something new. Pine resins are dominant bringing a moderately high bitterness with undertones of plum, roasted notes, grapefruit peel, burnt caramel, dark chcolate, and light spicy notes. Palate is medium to full, lively, lightly sticky, and velvety. Finishes completely balanced and long with a bit of dryness, a good bitterness, lightly sweet and fruit notes, with a light warmth; notes of plum, resins, and roasted chocolate. IIPA doesn’t begin to describe this one, it’s more like a super-hopped barleywine with some porterish notes. Great balance, perfect alcohol presence, complex, unique, and wonderfully put together. My favorite of whichever style (IIPA or BW) and unmatched by any other hoppy beer.

Bottle. It pours as a brown ale with white foam. Looks very good! Very good aroma but it is hard to describe. Maybe like a crossing between an india pale ale and a barley wine? Slightly dry roasted taste. A bit sweet. Sorry but I am too much of a beginner to descibe this beer! Very complex. One of the best beers I had.

Color is a solid amber with very good carbonation and a thick, super tight off white head. Aroma is amazing, its rich and sweet with the scent of dried fruit, caramel and a hint of hops. Taste is complex, rich and hoppy. Starting with a full body it goes down creamy with a rich feel. Finish jumps out sweet with dried fruit taste, then some malt and a sweet floral hop flavor that is followed by a bold bitterness. In the after taste the bitterness builds a touch then some caramel taste that fades to a faint alcohol feel. This is just a flat-out excellent Imperial IPA with big bold rich flavors. I can see how someone could make the mistake of labeling it as a Barley Wine.

another rarity in norway, but here in new jersey, i find my dad drinking it everytime i go home. pours brownishamber with a tiny beige head. sticking to the edges, nose is rich, caramel, some sort of flower i cant remember, clover honey, mead. big mead nose. taste is. well sticky mouthfeel, great balance between sweet caramel malt and bitter orange rind great mouthfeel that is sticky and syrupy without overdoing it. a beautiful brew. one of the best ipas i think ive had.
