COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the second release of Special Holiday Ale, which was first brewed in San Diego in 2008. Each brew is following the same recipe, including Michigan chestnuts, white sage from southern California and Norwegian juniper berries, but differences in brewing and aging practices produce different beers. Cheers to being different! Skål!

Mørk med lettfarvet skum. Spennende krydret aroma, som passer etiketten. Varmt østlig preg. Fyldig, myk, lett bitter. God sødme. Fin lengde. God maltbase. (Hos Lene, 31.12.13)

Fine carbonation, almost creamy mouthfeel (though not that extreme). Holiday spices in moderation and overall smooth and balanced. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a muddy medium to dark brown. Minimal head. Aroma is sweet, quite malty, light spiced, what I believe is juniper, light roast, some chocolate, perhaps a bit of raisin, some other dark sugaryness - very interesting and unique. Flavor is similar, spiced, flowery, juniper still stands out to me, sugary caramel. Medium body. Creamy, little slick, sticky. Aroma is standout for me. Flavor still good just not quite balanced maybe. Don’t really like the herbal bitterness. Overall I enjoyed it.

very light and sweet, which is a little surprising considering the dark color. caramel, spices, juniper, roast. unique aroma. Taste follows. very interesting. sweet, floral, dark fruit. This beer is like my mind, there’s a lot going on. (but in a good way)

Bourgogne Wine glass. Very dark brown color. Small bubbled foam, yellowish beige in color, forms a close, wide & sticky head & leaves wide lacings on sides. Aroma profile displays : Intense caramel malt & candies, herbal – cumin & anise-, forest, blackberries & dried nuts. Toasted flavors, smoky hues, herbal infusion & dark fruits, underneath molasses & brown sugar. Full body. Moderate but slight sparkling carbonation. Velvet palate & dense texture. Well integrated ABV appears as a kind warming sensation. Fudge chocolate & fruit notes in the middle as well as dried nut zest, subtle spiced & spicy hints. Memories of coffee liquor & sugar –but no cloying- into a sweet toasted malt finish. Dark fruity aftertaste. Complex & flavorful as a Winter Ale should be!!

Dark brown body with a tiny head, ok lacing. Rather strong aroma with caramel, herbs, juniper berries and spices, also port wine, burnt sugar and brown sugar. Very sweet taste. Even though there are not much bitterness to balance, the sweetness, the spices ensure that the beer is not cloying. Maybe its because I’m Norwegian, but I find the Norwegian contribution to the spice mix, the juniper berries, to be much more obvious than white sage and chestnuts. On the other hand I’m not that familiar with the two latter ingredients, so they may be in there as well, as the stuff I’ve labelled "herbs" and "spices" in my tasting notes. I also get caraway, anise seeds, dark caramel and hints of chocolate. Amazing mouthfeel, it’s the most creamy and smooth texture I’ve ever experienced! The body is full and the carbonation is very soft. A wonderful beer!
