djoeye (933) - Tromsø, NORWAY - APR 20, 2014
25cl btl b@Vinmonopolet. Brown head, jet black body. Spicy chocolate to the nose. Who let vodka and brownies into my beer? Warming taste with dark spirited malts, chocolate, cognac-confectionery, coffee notes, some cocoa flour. Soft low carb, warmth to palate, ok. Finishes with fruity dark chocolate and spicy ashy bitterness. Overall, for fans of imperial stouts and barley wines.

Brouwerij (893) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - APR 13, 2014
250 mL bottle. Pours very dark brown with fine, light brown head. Settles in minutes with minimal lacing. Aroma is smoky, cured meat, beechwood, roasted, oaky, barrel, alcohol. Flavor is smoky, roasted, dark chocolate, caramelized sugar, with a cured meat, roasted, smoky, nutty, alcohol finish, and a lingering toasty, caramel finish. Good masking considering alcohol content. Rich and roasted, smooth and tasty. More roast as it warms, big nutty and caramel. Very soft carbonation, medium body, and smooth texture.

Rune (7361) - Tromsø, NORWAY - APR 13, 2014
250ml bottle, Batch 894/895, from Vinmonopolet Tromsø Langnes. A motor oily pour revealing a tan-coloured head slowly reduced to a remaining layer Jet black body. Plentiful rich sweet aromas of dark earthy malts, figs and warming alcohol added by a delicate peaty touch. The taste character follows suit with a delicious potpourri of spiced dark malts, dusty hops, mid-sweet liquorice and figs. Prolonged dark bitter ending with tingling alcohol on the swallow. Full bodied. Sits right as a perfect slow sipper on a quiet Saturday afternoon (Tromsø 12.04.2014).

Spitze! 8/12/12/14/13/14

8.5 oz bottle and served in my BCS snifter: Pours jet black with minimal head nor lace, oily tears however. The aroma is a cavalcade of dark malt vapours, deep earthiness, dark fruits and plenty of evil alcohol for a full on blackened Siberian experience. The taste is 1) Not as uber sweet as it may have been but still sweet enough 2) Heavy roast and espresso notes add depth 3) Lovely roundness of dried raisin and figs 4) very warming boozy finish cleanses the palate. Oh be warned, this is a full on sipping beer and not of the weak of heart. The mouth feel is actually not as viscous has I expected which is a good thing. Unlike the way over the top Dark Horizon Fourth or Tokyo, this "blending" of beers is actually drinkable in very small doses.

BeerandBlues2 (9104) - Hanover, Maryland, USA - APR 6, 2014
Bottle at home. Pours opaque black with a medium, fizzy brown head, short retention with spare lacing. Aroma is smoked malt, peat notes, roast and chocolate malt, dates, figs, and prunes with earthy hops and light alcohol notes. Flavor is dark malt dominant with peat smoked malt, dark fruits, alcohol, spicy hops and bitterness with a sweet body and dry finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

Foffern (1070) - Bodø, NORWAY - APR 5, 2014
Bottle at home. Pours a pitch black colour with a small, light brown head. Malty aroma with roasted malt, dark berries, smoke, licorice, dark wood, coffee beans and ash. Malty and roasted flavour with more wood, ash, roasted coffee, leather and a nice heavy bitterness in the end. Has a rich and oily mouth feel. A complex and flavourful imperial stout. Has a nice roasted touch. A well-balanced beer, and the alcohol is fairly masked. Just wonderful.

Bottle. Very black brew. Batch 984/895. Aroma with notes of milk chocolate, vanilla, strawberries, raisins, ash, wood, and more. Flavor follows the aroma, with additional notes of roasted nuts, licorice, salty licorice, alcohol, burnt wood. Full body, suprisingly lively carbonation. Very long and lingering aftertaste. Delicious.
