from Erzbierschof - pitch black beer with a moderate foam left; strong roasted aroma of pralines, cacao and licorice; strong malt backbone, very sweet, oily and hugely bitter; decently dry, very roasted and long chocolaty finish with more notes of licorice and tobacco; strong warming alcohol notes - beautiful !

The bottle was bought in Munich and I have had it in my fridge for some time. I am not sure if this bottle has gone bad, but with a best before date in 2027, it still ought to be good (brewed 2012). When opening the bottle, the beer presents itself with an overwhelming, unpleasant yeasty smell, masking any other aroma. After pouring and letting the beer breathe for a while, the yeasty smell retracts and leaves room for something reminding me very much of burnt plastic. The appearance is a very dark, reddish brown, with just a slight rim of foam, almost no carbonation. It is very hard to describe the taste. The beer is so sour, that it is difficult to notice much more than a slight hint of alcohol.

25cl bottle from Vinmonopolet Storo some time ago. Pours the expected used motor oil look with a rather modest beige head. Certainly needs some temperature to bring it out in full bloom. Roasty aroma with dark chocolate, some coffee, dark fruits, dark dried fruits, licorice and hints of wood, berries and herbs. Sweet, slightly alcoholic, but flavourful complex and somehow very well balanced. Full bodied with carbonation on the soft side. Desserty, delicious and an excellent sipper.

Kapsel czarny ze srebrnym logo Nøgne Ø. Pianka brązowa, sycząca, błyskawicznie znika do zera. Barwa czarna, nieprzejrzysta z nieśmiałymi rubinowymi refleksami. Aromat kakao, świeżo palonej kawy, wędzonej śliwki węgierki, rodzynek, daktyli, syropu sojowego i likieru. Wszystko to bardzo intensywne i wyraźne! W smaku identycznie, na początku czekoladowa słodycz, zaraz za nią nuty ciemnych owoców, suszonych fig, następnie lekka cierpkość pestek wiśni, szorstkość popiołowa, czarny sos sojowy, prażone ziarno, na finiszu wanilia, posmak starego drewna i palonych kabli. Goryczka średnia, długa, tytoniowo palona. Wysycenie niskie, drobne.

250ml bottle enjoyed @ home. Pours black with a quick fading beige head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, raisins, prunes, dates and liquorice. Flavour is light bitter and medium sweet. Full bodied, oily texture, soft carbonation. Finish is sweet with arming alcohol. Much better balance than the Mikkeller version.

Ristet malt smak som går over i vanilje, så sjokolade/kaffe og lakris. Et topp øl. Perfect for Norway beating Italy in Rome

250ml bottle. Pours an opaque black with a thin, fully diminishing, brown head. Strong aroma of roasted malt with dark chocolate, liquorice and alcohol. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, liquorice, dried fruit, dark chocolate and coffee with a dry, bitter, warming alcohol finish. Full body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Excellent!

Black beer with not much head on top. Smallish lacing still sticks to the glass. Aroma has licorice, salt, coffee, roasted malts, chocolate and some berries. Taste has lots of stuff. Cocoa, dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, red berries, cream and a bit of warming alcohol. Creamy full body and low carbonation. Really great collaboration.
