Rating #1831- 2015.07.17 - Bottle from CBIl with a tan head that caps nicely. Aroma is heavy roast malt, espresso, molasses. Taste is heavy on roast malt and coffee flavours, lots of burnt sugar, toffee, blackstrap molasses. For 16%, the alcohol really isn’t as in your face as it could be. Unreal balance in texture and depth of character.

Served in teku. Pours deep black with great beige head, rather weak retention. Aroma is delightful, lots of chocolate, cocoa, maltiness, some vanilla and roasted hints, quite intense overall. Taste is overwhelming, very warming, you can feel heaviness of this beer, but its mostly chocolate and coffee, some anise, quite raw and earthy. Very long and dry finish. Definitely full body, quite oily. If you fancy imperial stouts, thats what youre looking for.

Bottled. Full 25cl sample. The aroma has booze, chocolate, roast, some coffee, some vanilla. Black coloured beer with a beige head. The taste is light-moderate bitter, has chocolate sweetness, booze, roast, coffee, raisins. Full of complex taste. Medium-full bodied mouthfeel. Light carbonation. Pretty good.

Appearance: opaque black with a short-lived loose beige head, no lacing. (3/5) Aroma: boozy dark fruit, chocolate, liquorice, dark roasty malt, vanilla. (7/10) Taste: high bitter, moderate-high sweet. (7/10) Full body, soft carbonation, lingering boozy finish. (3/5) Yeah, it’s another 11 years and then some before the BB date, but it’s good to be proactive, right? I went into this assuming that over three years of ageing should be sufficient to allow this thing to smooth out as much as it was gonna. I might’ve been mistaken. Or maybe this thing is never gonna settle down. Either way, it’s a hot, boozy mess. I’m the last one to criticize a hot, boozy mess, because that pretty much describes me (heyyy-ooo!) but this is just… well… I debated using “harsh”, but, yeah, it’s harsh. Not brutal, perhaps, but definitely harsh. And way overrated: if I’m gonna struggle to drink a mediocre beer, at least let me not have to pay fifty bucks a litre for it? (13/20)

0.25 l bottle from ’De Molen’, brewed in November 2012, best before November 2027, shared at ’Beertemple’ with markoijelena. Pitch black, no head. Sweetish, moderately roasty and a bit boozy aroma of dark chocolate, some coffee, licorice, tar, iodine and dark fruits. Very sweet, moderately roasty-malty and a bit alcoholic taste of dark chocolate, coffee, licorice, tar, some iodine and dark fruits, followed by a long, moderately roasty-bitter, rather warming-alcoholic finish. Full body, oily and a little effervescent mouthfeel, almost flat. Good, it’s quite alcoholic but it fits in well, definitely a nice sipper!

250 ml bottle at home. Black coor with brown head. Roasted malty aroma, dark dried fruits, licorice, dark chocolate, caramel, light smoked, wood, alcohol. Sweet and bitter taste like aroma, dark chocolate, licorice, wood, dark dried fruits. Full silky more than oily body with soft carbonation.

Bottle. Jest black, with tiny, light brown head. Poor head retention and lacing. Medium roasted malts and dries fruits - raisins, plums, cherries aroma, also some milk chocolate notes. Taste is moderately sweet thru the whole of degustation. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation, finish is little boozy and semi-sweet. In general not as good as it is rated here, conditional, above average RIS.
