3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep, dark brown/black pour with a smaller brown head. Aroma is dark fruits, some coffee, chocolate and spicy hops. Taste is some mocha, chocolate, sweet caramel, spicy/sour from the rye, roasted malts, earthy hops. Overall, it was ok, but not a great brew due to the fact that the rye just didn’t work perfectly for me in the finish.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 ounce bottle - $9.99 at Charlie’s Beer & Wine in Marietta, Georgia.
Appearance: Pours out an ebony-hued body with a small-sized, tan head. Thin veneer of lacing on the way down.
Smell: Robust mocha tones with the incorporated roast, the harsh chocolate, heavy toastiness. Slightly lesser but still hearty notes of dark fruit, rye malt, anise, and woodsy hop pellets.
Taste: Roasted malts, plenty of bitter dark chocolate with a little pinch of licorice and some of the zestful rye coming across mingled with some underlying hop bitterness from the woodsy hops and alcohol warmth. Spiced, peppery mocha on the back half with continued warmth and some roasted grain astringency until the creamyish finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Fairly creamy, soft mouthfeel.
Overall: Fairly solid while not a jump for joy beer. Nøgne Ø generally handles the malty brews well.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours black with a dark brown head that hangs around, good lacing. Aroma is chocolate and coffee with a spicy rye note for sure, some raisin and a bit of a leathery hint. Taste is the same, chocolate, coffee, rye, leather in the finish along with a nice bitter bite in the finish as well, id like to put some age on this.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark chocolate brown, almost black color with a two finger mocha head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Streaks and chunks of lacing left behind.
Roasted dark malt aroma with a spicy rye presence that’s complimented by earthy hops, lactic cream and sweeter notes. Really strong rye character along with burnt toast, dark chocolate, caramel, toffee and oatmeal. Slightly boozy and on the verge of becoming acrid but the rye adds another dimension of complexity that helps the nose.
On the fuller end of medium bodied with a surprisingly hop forward flavor profile. Very dry and bitter with a dank, earthy pine needle presence that lingers over the spicy rye and roasted malts into a bone dry finish. In desperate need of some sweetness to combat the acrid, burnt malt profile and overpowering hop bitterness. As it warms and the palate adjusts, the rye character and subtle malt sweetness comes toward the forefront. Hints of burnt dark chocolate malt, oatmeal, robust coffee bean and caramel before finishing with subtle boozy heat. Not bad, but too hoppy for the style in my opinion and could use some more sweetness for balance.

Smells roasty, dark chocolate and some alcohol. Great apperance, dark as midnight on a moonless night with a tan head. The taste is sharp from the rye, but with a smooth mouthfeel. Well balanced, alcohol is hidden well, but gives away some warmth. A very good beer from NØ and Terrapin, exciting and well done!
