Pours black with a dark brown head that hangs around, good lacing. Aroma is chocolate and coffee with a spicy rye note for sure, some raisin and a bit of a leathery hint. Taste is the same, chocolate, coffee, rye, leather in the finish along with a nice bitter bite in the finish as well, id like to put some age on this.

Pours a dark chocolate brown, almost black color with a two finger mocha head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Streaks and chunks of lacing left behind. Roasted dark malt aroma with a spicy rye presence that’s complimented by earthy hops, lactic cream and sweeter notes. Really strong rye character along with burnt toast, dark chocolate, caramel, toffee and oatmeal. Slightly boozy and on the verge of becoming acrid but the rye adds another dimension of complexity that helps the nose. On the fuller end of medium bodied with a surprisingly hop forward flavor profile. Very dry and bitter with a dank, earthy pine needle presence that lingers over the spicy rye and roasted malts into a bone dry finish. In desperate need of some sweetness to combat the acrid, burnt malt profile and overpowering hop bitterness. As it warms and the palate adjusts, the rye character and subtle malt sweetness comes toward the forefront. Hints of burnt dark chocolate malt, oatmeal, robust coffee bean and caramel before finishing with subtle boozy heat. Not bad, but too hoppy for the style in my opinion and could use some more sweetness for balance.

Bottle at Tilt. Black body with a low dark brown head. Yummy! Low carbonation, thick body. Sweet caramel aroma with roasted malt, some smoke. Taste of caramel, rye, roast, dark chocolate. Dry bitter finish.

Black pour, chocolate brown head. Raisins, chocolate, molasses, roast, rye, and coffee aroma. Flavor is bold, lots of rye, chocolate, roast, prunes, and a bitter finish. Really great.

Smells roasty, dark chocolate and some alcohol. Great apperance, dark as midnight on a moonless night with a tan head. The taste is sharp from the rye, but with a smooth mouthfeel. Well balanced, alcohol is hidden well, but gives away some warmth. A very good beer from NØ and Terrapin, exciting and well done!

Henrik Ol & Vinstove, Bergen tap: Pour is black with a brown head. Aroma is rye and very roasted malt, perhaps a bit burnt. Also, there is some dark chocolate. Taste is slightly sweet. It is not as bitter as was expected. Lots of roast. Finish is pretty dope. This is a well-balanced, well-covered beer. I love it when beers try new things and pull them off sexily on the first try.

This is an excellent beer. Thick and a bit smoky, it has a chewy dark chocolate flavor to it. A little milky flavors to it. Pretty good.

Sample at Ale Wine & Spirits in Powell on 08/09/2012. Brownish-black pour with a medium tan head that diminishes slowly. Small patches of lace on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and hops. Medium to full body with a roasty malt character and notes of hops, coffee and anise. The finish is mildly bitter coffee and licorice. Above average Porter overall.

Comes out of the bottle a deep, warm sable with a very thick tan head that sticks around for a bit and leaves some generous lacing. The sample I got fizzed quite a bit, but at least I didn’t get a miniature Old Faithful the way I have on occasion. Rich, smoky aroma has notes of molasses, quality coffee, semi-sweet chocolate, caramel and toffee. Lip-smacking flavor fills the mouth with roast malt, quality coffee, caramel, wood, licorice and hops plus a noticeable alcohol nip. Smooth, firm-bodied texture has good fizz and leaves a slightly sweet, slightly hop bitter, smoky and tingly finish. The offspring of Terrapin and Nogne-O is a beautiful child!

Bottle 50cl, a dark beer with low brown head. Nose is sweet like, on caramel, roasted malt and roasted barley, burnt caramel and licorice. Aroma is on roasted malt with dark chocolate notes, very creamy, dark coffee, licorice, dried gapes, peppery and metallic hops. Long roasted notes at the finish, very near the usual imperial stout.
